Flower cost??

Private User, on October 17, 2015 at 11:47 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 18

I made an appointment to go to a florist next Friday. I want to keep flowers to a low budget, but going into this I have no idea what a typical cost for things are. Can anyone help with what there costs were for the following items so I know if I'm getting good pricing? A big bouquet for myself in sangria colors, small bouquets for bridesmaids, corsages for the moms, Boutonnieres for the guys, and then boxes of petals for my flower girls. Also thinking of checking out Publix for the flowers anyone have any experience with using them? thanks!!

It depends on where you're located but some people suggest that as a rule of thumb you should plan to spend about 10% of your budget on florals. Could be more or less depending on how important the flowers are to you. Go into the meeting with a budget in mind so you can discern whether the florist can accommodate you.

I searched online for what I wanted and looked at different prices. When I met with florist, I knew exactly what I wanted and how much I wanted to spend on each item. Based on that, the florist told me what she could offer. I got everything for under $900. I got what I could afford and stayed away from Pinterest and magazines.

A lot would depend on what flowers, how large and complicated the bridal bouquet (e.g., whether it is hand-tied or the more labor-intensive wired), how many bridesmaids, and how many guys. We ended up with under $250 for bouquets, bouts, and flower petals. That included two bridal bouquets (primarily roses, and hand-tied), one MOH bouquet, one bout, and no bridesmaids' bouquets or corsages. Also, the flower petals were freeze-dried (so they would not stain if dropped onto carpet).

You might want to take your list of what you want to a couple of florists, and see what they come up with.

One suggestion I don't see a lot here is to try looking into grocery store floral departments; a friend of mine was on a strict budget and went to HEB for hers. They turned out gorgeous and they were a little over 300 (if I remember right) for 4 BM, 4 GM, herself and the groom

I got my flowers at a local grocery store and spent about $400 for: bridal bouquet and 5 BM's bouquets (gerberas, baby's breath and greenery), 7 boutonnières (white rose) and one corsage (lily). They were gorgeous and nobody could have realized they didn't come from a florist.

Also, if you google "average wedding costs" you'll find sample budgets that will help you figure out how much most people spend per item

I went to a local florist and spent just under $600 on my bouquet, 4 BM bouquets, 9 bouts, 6 corsages, and a bag of petals. Flowers were white roses and some green filler. The price included delivery. I am in the MD/DE area. You can kind of see my bouquet here

I'm spending 1500 for a bridal bouquet, 9 BM bouquets, 11 bouts, 3 corsages, and a piece to decorate the ceremony arch. I'm not doing floral centerpieces and that saved me a ton of money, so keep that in mind. If you want floral centerpieces or any other reception décor that is going to be an additional expense. It also depends on location, and the types of flowers you're looking for. If you use seasonal flowers that can help you save on the cost. Good luck!

I'm looking at $1600 for a nice bridal bouquet, 3 BM, 7 bouts, 3 corsages, altar decor- big vases with babies breath, and 12 cheap centerpieces (plastic container, babies breath, carnations). I was quoted $2500 for the same amount of stuff, but large, nice centerpieces at a different florist.

That's funny April, I constantly see brides here talking about going to supermarkets- I feel like Kroger is one brides mention a lot.

This varies a lot based on location and what you want. If you want out of season flowers, it will cost more. Certain flowers are just more expensive than others. I do remember seeing other brides who have used Publix. I would get a quote from Publix and a few florists and see what's in your budget and if there will be a difference in quality.

Location is key, and the percentage of total cost doesn't really work because you could have a relatively small budget and 15 in the bridal party, all of whom need flowers (though I've seen a lot of people forgo the GM bouts....)

    In my area;

    Bridal bouquet 100-300+

    BM's 75-125.

    Bouts 15-20

Centerpieces; 65-400 (many of my couples are doing some high, some low; high is normally more expensive.

Give you florist your budget and needs and let them suggest what to do.

If you have a Harris Teeter I highly recommend checking there!!! I got a bridal bouquet (lilies, white roses, baby's breath), 12 BM/table bouquets (pink roses, baby's breath, greenery), and 12 buckets full of baby' s breath for the aisles, as well as delivery for $350.

We went to Kroger. We spent $15 per bouquet for each table and my large bouquet I carried was $40 with each for my bridesmaids being $20. We only spent $400 and we had flowers everywhere. It was also nice at the end of the night being able to give flowers to the moms, aunts, sisters, etc. Everyone commented on the flowers we had at each table looking so expensive - they had roses and everything.

You don't say how many BMs you have, but I would roughly say that it would be at least $600 for the items you mentioned from a florist, and possibly more.

There is so much that can impact price-- location, type of flowers, season, even just how in demand your florist is. I think there are 2 schools of thought to this, depending how important flowers are to you. One is that you go in with your vision, and then see what it costs the florist to do that. The other is that you go in with a budget, and then see what the florist can do for you within that price. Either way, make sure when you get your quotes, you ask for sizes (diameter) or number of stems, so that you can really compare apples to apples.

ETA: To give you an idea, my bouquet had 5 hydrangea, 7-8 roses, 8-9 delphinium blossoms and baby's breath and cost $70. My BM bouquets were larger than normal because they doubled as our low centerpieces but they were $45/ea for 4 hydrangea, 7-8 delphinium blossoms and baby's breath. The bouts ranged from delphiniums only (GM), to roses only (dad's) to both (groom) but were all $12. The mom's corsages were spray roses and delphiniums, and cost $24/ea. Rose petals for the FG were $6.

We went a little high end. Our flowers were $900 for my bouquet, MOH bouquet, 5 corsages, 4 bouts, 6 centerpieces, toss bouquet, and flower girl petals. My bouquet was $130, I think MOH was like $90, centerpieces were $70 each. Flowers were a big priority for us and since we only had MOH/BM and 50 guests we could splurge a little.

It depends on the type of flowers you want - premium (garden roses, peonies, callas, etc) or standard flowers; where you are; popularity of the floral designer; experience and skill of the floral designer; how "textured" (how many different types of flowers you want in there); if you are using seasonal or imported flowers; complexity of your project; and how many items you want.

Does the floral designer you are meeting with have "starting" prices? You can kind of get an idea, there. Or a "minimum"? Some florists require you to spend, for example, $1500 minimum. If your floral designer doesn't have starting or average prices on their website, see if nearby designers do.

Do go to your appointment with a pinterest board, likes, dislikes, colors, date, venue, and approximate numbers of bridal party, and approximate number of guests or centerpieces needed (most round tables fit 8 comfortably, or 10 guests a little squished). Also, tell the floral designer the "style" you are looking for: for example, rustic, elegant, woodland, modern, whimsical, etc.

    For an idea:

    $150-250 bride

    $75-125 each bridesmaid

    $20 groom

$15 each groomsman, father, grandfather bout

$25-40 each corsage for mother, grandmothers

    $200 petals on aisle

$40 hanging vase arrangements (you don't need one for each row. think every other row, if you do this. brides usually order 10 from me - 5 each side)

$150 each ceremony large marker arrangements (you would order two, usually)

    $150 arch spray

$40-125 low centerpieces (I'd say $75 is average)

    $175-400 tall centerpieces

TAX (in my county it's 7.5%)

Delivery and set-up - this varies by floral designer - some charge a % of the total, like 20%, some charge based on distance and hourly wages. Figure a minimum of $150 but don't be surprised to pay much more.

It's also good to go in with approximate budget range you want to spend on flowers. The florist needs to know your target. The florist needs to know if you are looking to spend $800 or $8000. If you ask them to shoot in the dark, you will be disappointed - the quote will be way too high, or you will be happy it's low but then be disappointed with a very modest look. It's important to be honest on this point.

    Hope that helps! Best wishes!

Here is an example of what $451 plus tax is: bride's bouquet, three bridesmaids, four bouts
