Flower Crown Bar

Samantha, on July 5, 2018 at 6:40 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 15
I am a MOH hosting a bridal shower for my best friend. I wanted to have a flower crown bar for all the ladies to make their own flower crown. I am NOT a DIY type of person. I desperately need some help!

How do I do it? Real flowers or fake ones? What materials will I need and how much? There will be approximately 70 women at the shower.
Thanks for any help!!

Depends on your budget for this. You can get bulk real flowers from Sam's or Costco, get nice fakes from Hobby Lobby (think they're on sale right now) or Michael's, or just get a bunch of fake stems from Walmart or Dollar Tree. I honestly think fake would work better and there's a lot of options out that.

I presume they go on with hot glue? I'm not sure about the logistics of 70 people trying to do it because those kinds of things generally have people trying to do it all at once.

Fake flowers and hot glue would be my suggestion. If you but stems, it would be easier for guests if they were alread cut and ready to glue.

70 people is a lot of supplies to buy for!
Anyways, you’ll need some wire, I used 25 gauge, some floral tape, ribbon (optional) and flowers of choice. I measured my head on doubled up the wire, wrapped it in floral tape, and then added small bits of flowers (baby’s breath) and wrapped them. Make sure to stretch the floral tape to get it to stick. The closer together the flowers, the fuller the crown. Instead of wire the whole way around, you can make a loop and loop ribbon for a tie closure

This is going to be pricey whether you use real or silk flowers. What is the purpose? Just to have an activity? If so, I would find something else that is not likely to be thrown out the minute the guests leave the shower.

How fun! I would say go with faux flowers. That way they can be cherished for a longer amount of time.

I would definitely go with fake flowers... especially if others are not used to doing crafts and it'll be a easier clean up without damaging the flowers. I would also go with either a hot glue gun or E3600 glue. I swear E3600 is my go-to glue for crafts! It has the consistency of regular glue, with better flexibility than hot glue, and it's easier to make slight adjustments - if needed.

Michael's or Jo-Ann's will be your go to with a lot more selection to choose from. I would even get little charms in the jewelry section if they want to add some charms or sparkle. Only because if you want to use glitter, well, that stuff gets everywhere! Haha. Also for the head band, I would probably go with plastic tiara's that you can just decorate over, or you can use a wire that you can find in the flower section. Also, download the Michael's app and get coupons! They ALWAYS have a coupon for regular and/or sale items!

    Good luck!

That’s going to cost a lot of money no matter what route you decide to go. I’d think silk would hold up better, but they are very pricey. You’d definitely need to invest in hot glue (and lots of it for so many people), floral tape, floral wire, and maybe ribbon or plastic headbands. Since you’re not a diy person I would urge you to reconsider this idea. I love diy activities and just the thought of this stresses me out.

If you were having a couple of small showers, and wanted to choose one group who really like games, and one bunch of crafty people, or a group who would like a short cooking project to take home, instruction in how to make pita bread or fudge pr baklava, for half an hour of the shower, I can see making it a really great time. But although I am into lots of crafts , and have met many friends through doing such things, I cannot think of even any 30 people who would like any one thing. Flower hair wreaths, maybe 10 out of sixty. The shear logistics, enough places for all to work at a table with things spread.out, 25 glue guns so people do not spend lots of time waiting - I don't see it working out. Not and leave enough time for the bride to open and hold up and graciously thank 50-70 gift givers. Unless you are planning a shower that isn't a shower, just a social activity where the price of admission is handing over a gift at the door, not seeing it opened. Not a shower, a gift acquisition set-up. So do a really small group, selecting those who like such activities, with plenty of time for present opening. Or no presents, no shower, just a party to have a good time with close friends and family. Be prepared to spend $5 per person for the supplies, minimum. Plus food and drink. It is wonderful for a MOH to be willing to take on such a project, for a dear friend. But huge difficult projects with big spending for an activity and refreshments for a huge crowd can be as stressful as planning a whole wedding. This is a lesser event. Think realistically a little more before committing yourself to such an activity based shower for 70 guests.

This! I would either not make it or toss it when I got home. I would never have a reason to wear a flower crown.

Agree with Muriel and FutureMrsV. I know you mean well but having a craft would make it feel more like a kid's birthday party than a bridal shower. If you feel the need for a game, knock yourself out, but generally eating, drinking, socializing and opening gifts is more than enough for a couple of hours. With 70 people, the gift opening could take an hour alone.

This is SO cute, I love this idea. I think you could do either, real or fake. If they are fake, it could double as a favor! I'd make sure you have florist wire, and shears for the circle shapes to start the crowns on. Then florist tape to cover the wire. Then lots of greenery with a bunch of different kinds of flowers! Then you tape them on with the greenery. Maybe make one a couple days before, so you have an example for people to go off of? Or print of pictures of a bunch of different kinds?

Fake fake fake....flowers of course! Smiley smile That way the crowns will last as long as the women want to utilize them! Check out Pinterest and Etsy for inspo! Tons of great ideas on both sites. I'm sure out of 70 women, at least a few of them will be crafty or have previous experience making flower crowns!

I do agree with what other members have said about this being quite and expensive idea, but some places will have deals for buying in bulk! Smiley smile

Very cute but not going to be cheap! I'd honestly suggest if you have 70 people to do this for the bachelorette instead, but if you're set on it, I'd say the easiest way would be:

Buy bulk ribbon (you can do a quick calculation on how much you'll need based on average head circumference) and pre-cut it into head-sized pieces (with a decent amount of extra ribbon for tying) so that you don't have to buy more than you need (otherwise you'll lose a good bit of it to people cutting the wrong size, using too much, etc). Buy bulk fake flowers at Michaels or similar craft store (wait for a sale, usually you can get 40-50% off, and shop the clearance aisles!). Buy the ones without stems, as I doubt there's room in your budget on 70 pairs of wire cutters and you don't want to have to cut them up yourself (I speak as someone making all their own wedding flowers). For attaching, I'm not sure how you're going to get enough hot glue to go around (maybe see if the other bridesmaids/guests have hot glue guns and try to get at LEAST 7 of them), but you might be able to try other creative methods like safety pins? Tacky glue MIGHT work but also might not hold up the best. I'd spread the materials out over the tables where the guests will already be sitting, and let them work at them casually instead of blocking out an hour from your time for everyone to crowd around one craft table. Good luck!

Hey Samantha! I think making my own flower crown would be a fun activity at a bridal shower, but I can understand what the previous members said about the logistics. How did this flower crown bar turn out? Did you find some things working out better than you thought at the shower?
