Flower Expense for Large Budget Wedding

Equestrian, on June 10, 2015 at 1:16 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 15

We're working with a planner, so she can help with this, but I'm interested to know what's a typical flower budget for a black tie wedding in a major east coast city. Think something at a luxury hotel with ~175 guests.

I'm on the east coast (NY). I'm paying $2500 for 100 guests. I'm going to estimate that for a luxury wedding with 175 guests you might spend 8k. I wish I had a larger floral budget like you. Good luck!

I think usually flowers are 8-10% of your budget.... but that can vary wildly based on what you want, what you can afford and how important flowers are to you..

It can be as much as you want, out of season flowers and flowers that need to get imported will cost the most

First off don't go in saying you have a large budget, I am paying 8000 for my flowers, to me 8000 is a lot to spend on flowers but my florist has worked on weddings where the couple spends upwards of 100,000 on flowers. Get an idea of what kind of flowers you want and if you have a big budget then you don't need to worry about getting whatever it is you want.

    10%ish.

What is "large budget"? I need more information before I consider if I should seriously answer.

I'd say, with 20 tables, bouquets, bouts and some incidental flowers.....****.

I too am having a luxury over the top wedding (my mother's dream LOL) in flowers we are at 9,500.

My self and my bridesmaids are having crystal brooch bouquets made the total for those are 2000. I figured if I'm going to spend that kind of money on flowers I might as well be able to keep them forever.

The rest of the flowers are fresh flowers. for the centerpieces etc...

Black tie wedding in NYC? I don't know the going prices there, but....

Very formal. Centerpieces, if you want the big, tall, showy ones, would be anywhere from $250-800. For 20 tables, let's say, that's $5000 minimum right there.

If you want a lot of flowers for the ceremony, another few thousand, most likely.

A formal bouquet with premium flowers, likely $300+.

    Bridesmaids likely minimum $150 each.

Then there are bouts, corsages, any other flowers.

NYC is a premium price because it costs the floral designers a lot of overhead...costs are higher in the city.

If I were you I'd suggest seeing if any florists in that area have starting prices, and add up for yourself what you are interested in. Don't forget tax. Many floral designers charge 20% for delivery/set-up/strike.

Best wishes for a lovely wedding day!!

If you're considering the type of tall centerpieces that are typically seen at weddings that are truly black tie and held in those opulent luxury hotels in places like NYC, Boston, or DC, you are looking at approximately $500 for a centerpiece on a stand. Take it up a few notches and make it a double or triple layered tall centerpiece, and you can go to prices that would make the average bride shake her head in disbelief. These are not the typical 22" high pieces with balls on top of a candlestick I'm talking about. These are seriously impressive pieces of art. With your guest list, I'm figuring you'll have somewhere between 17 to 22 tables. If you do the $500 pieces on all the tables, you're looking at anywhere from $8500 - $11K just for the centerpieces. You can, of course, work with your florist to bring those per piece prices down my making alterations, but you're not going to find a lot that's done by a real professional in a tall arrangement for much less $200 PP (and that's if you use an unadorned candlestick base with hydrangea and roses or some other type of accent flower). You can do a combo of designs, some tall, some medium, some low, but again, that's something to talk to your florist about (that will bring the price down).

These type of black tie, luxury weddings usually feature floral pieces throughout the venue. For those pieces, it's per piece quote.

Bridal bouquets are usually somewhere between $100 and $400 (depending upon the flowers and size). BMs will run less. Ceremony decor is a whole different quote. If you're getting married at the venue, you can always use two of your tall centerpieces for the ceremony.

If you want top of line, black tie elegance, I think you're looking at something in the neighborhood of $12K - $15K (unless I'm totally not getting your vision).

Wow - your floral budget is (likely) more than my entire wedding budget.

I think the average is like 10% of your budget or something like that. Good luck.
