Flower girl and ring bearer necessary?

SoontobeSchultz, on October 23, 2016 at 8:43 AM Posted in Planning 0 20

Although I have plenty of time yet ( haven't even finalized bridesmaids yet) I'm curious to know if it is necessary to have a flower girl and ring bearer.

My niece and nephew will never 11 and 12 by the time we get married and not sure if they would even want to be that part. I have cousins who have younger children who would be a good age, but I'm thinking 4 flower girls would be too much. I think my cousins would also be offended if

I just picked one of them. So I was thinking of just going without one. Is it a smarter idea to?

It's not necessary. FH and I are in a similar situation- we asked his 12 year old niece and 10 yo nephew if they wanted to be in the wedding and we never heard an answer....we assumed no and proceeded to plan as if we would not have children in the bridal party.

Just last month their mother told me they want to be in the wedding. So we have a ring bearer and made his niece a Jr bridesmaids, along with three of my cousins ages 11-14. You can skip it altogether if you don't want to deal with the politics.

We aren't having them- largely because I want absolutely no kids at my wedding. I just don't think it's necessary.

Edit: they will be 11 and 12. Typo on this phone! My sister is extremely busy and getting a hold of her is difficult ( it's like making an appointment with a doctor in order to visit them lol). That's another reason I was leaning away towards them.

Not necessary. We're having a ring bearer and flower girl but if I didn't have my niece and nephew we wouldn't be.

No, not necessary. While I love kids I don't find them cute at a wedding, even in a role like this. Skip it. Give the best man the ring to hold.

We're skipping them. I have too many cousins to ask, if I ask one niece I have to ask all 5, and I refuse to include FBILs wife and child.

We are only having our niece, who will be almost 2 1/2 by our wedding be the flower girl. No ring bearer - his BM will hold the rings

You don't have to. We are having 2 ring bearers and no flower girl.

We're not having either. We don't know anyone in the right age group and I've heard horror stories about tantrums. Simplicity is my friend.

We aren't having them in our wedding. The 2 kids we have in our lives to ask are shy and we didn't want to tramatize them. All our vendors are relieved.

@Tiffany it's exactly why I can't with my younger cousins. I would feel obligated to ask all of them lol.
