Flower girl basket alternatives!?

The New Mrs. B, on January 30, 2013 at 8:35 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 18

So.. my flower girls (FH's neice and my neice) will be 3 years and 2 years old at our wedding.. Originally I was going to make baskets for them to carry and if they threw petals from them, great! If not, no biggie.. I wasn't really going to expect it though.

After a less than stellar DIY attempt at their baskets, I am sort of second guessing putting the work into a basket if they won't really be used. Now, I know a lot of FG's use pomanders, but I have some strange aversion to them. I don't know where it came from, but I do.

Has anyone seen FG's just carry itty bitty bouquets?

Or any other neat alternatives?!

Thanks! Smiley smile

I love the itty bitty bouquets! That would be adorable! I agree with you about the pomanders. You could always do a "Here comes the bride" sign?

I am not having a flower girl but I am having 3 ring bearers, two are carrying pillows and the oldest (hes 7) is carrying our unity candle to the table.

Hi, as a professional wedding planner and designer, I have probably seen it all! I do love when the little ones carry a small bouquet - and they love being like the big girls! I have also seen the parasol in outdoor or garden style weddings and the sign as shown above by Lauren....they are also very tasteful options and very cute. You could also have them wear little head bands or halos made of floral if they are opposed to holding anything....little ones can be tricky! At one wedding, a little FG even handed out little personalized candies to those along the aisle. It was adorable because she kept saying, "one for you....one for you....one for you...." Too adorable in the video! They don't have to carry anything though so no worries, the mini bouquet, the sign, the parasol, the candies, or whatever you pick, it is more about how cute they are in doing the task than it is about accomplishing it properly!

You could have them pulled in a wagon and put the flower petals in the bottom that they can throw... It would be cute... you could decorate them like little floats have your MOH and the BM pull each one of them down in their own?

Put little signs on the the back of the wagons that say here comes the bride...?

We made a flower pole for our daughter. But my colors are green and brown, so I just made her pole all different colors with lots of brights. I really like it. She will be 2 before the wedding, and we are practicing with her walking with it now so she will be ok on the big day.

My picture won't upload. I'll try again, but if there is no photo, you know why.

Here it is on Pinterest. http://pinterest.com/pin/225813368785917706/

I made my flower girls flower pomanders to carry. They are very young and it's doubtful they would throw petals and then I'll use them for decor at the reception!!

My flower girl carried one small rose with greens and a ribbon... she was almost 3... I didn't want her to HAVE to do anything... just be there in all her cuteness LOL

I'm either going to have my girls carry pomanders or nosegays (tiny bouquets). They don't seem to hate either idea. I nixed the baskets too.

I think I've definitely decided on the mini bouquets like in the pic below! Thanks for all of the ideas, ladies! I like the idea of the streamer too.. but I don't feel like it flows with out overall theme/look of our venue, if that makes sense. I think the signs are adorable.. but I'm trying to avoid "props".. same as the pomanders.. I can't really describe why, but I don't want them. They are all super cute though!

    Thanks!
