Flower Girl, Junior Bridesmaid or something else?

Harriet, on August 4, 2021 at 3:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
So we’re planning an Indian-English wedding and I’d like to have my SO’s younger cousin (aged 12) involved in the wedding procession/overall events, but I’m unsure of how best to 1, ask her, and 2, what to have her do! Anyone got any experience with involving older children in their ceremony?!

FH's niece will be 11 and we asked her to be a junior bridesmaid. Her younger siblings are our ring bearer and flower girl, but she felt too old to have be a flower girl and we aren't having any readings during our ceremony. I asked her the same way I asked my bridesmaids, which was giving them a handwritten note and some hairties that said "Will you help me tie the knot?" Her mom is a bridesmaid so I wanted her to feel just as included as a bridesmaid.

I think 12 is a good age to be a junior bridesmaid. If you make her a flower girl, she may feel as if you're treating her like a little kid. She's old enough to walk in the processional and help out with events like the shower (except where alcohol is being served).

I was 13 when I was a junior bridesmaid. I think 12 is an appropriate age to be a junior bridesmaid. She’s old enough that she could participate in the shower and other events

I asked my 12 year old niece to be in the wedding. I didn't expect her to do anything but have fun. She is joining us for my Bachelorette party this weekend. I made sure we did something that would be great for all ages.
