Flower Girl or Ring Keeper

Lisa, on November 12, 2020 at 6:47 PM Posted in Planning 1 9

Our wedding was postponed to October 2021 which has given me so more time to think things over. I have two nieces who are sisters; one is eight, she'll be nine and half by the wedding and the other is four, she'll be five by the wedding. I asked both girls to by Flower Girls about a year our from our original date along with their mom (my sister) to be my Maid of Honor. Right now, we don't have a Ring Bearer.

I'm wondering if the nine year old would be too old to be a flower girl or if she should be a Ring Keeper? It's a much bigger responsibility. I'm sure she'd be excited to participate in either capacity.

I'm curious, if you are having flower girls, what are their ages? Did you give yourself a cut-off age?

I know it doesn't really matter, and it is my day and I can do what I want... it's just something that has been on my mind. I'm going to run it by my sister to get thoughts.

Thanks!

We're not having any since we dont know anyone in that age range to ask. Typically 11/12 is the cutoff where they would become a jr bridesmaid.

Ohh okay. I was thinking Jr. Bridesmaid, but we are only have a Maid of Honor and Best Man. She's not old enough for that anyway. Thank you!

Soo we didn’t have any flower girls, however my ring bearer was 8 at the time of the wedding (my nephew) . And he was soo cute, his exact words before he walked out in front of me to go down the aisle was (Auntie I’ve never felt like this in my entire life) 🥰 so I think she would enjoy the more responsibility of holding the rings!

That’s so sweet! Early on in planning my niece asked my brother if he thought I’d pick her as my flower girl. So I makes me think she likes the idea but I wonder if she knows about carrying the rings.

That’s a fabulous idea for her to be the ring keeper! She’ll feel like such a big girl taking in that responsibility!

My niece who's my flower girl was 8 for my minimony and she will be 9 for my big wedding and she'll still be my flower girl. Everyone thought she was the most adorable flower girl and I'm sure it'll be the same for my big wedding

We had neither. However, even if we did have a ring bearer, I would not have actually given him the rings! One of my bridesmaids held the rings for us. I would not trust a child with thousands of dollars worth of jewelry.

I think 9 is a fine age for a flower girl.

I was 10 and I was cousins flower girl! Honestly I don’t think age necessarily matters, it’s all your vision and what you think looks best.
