Flower Girl Pedal Toss Alternative?

Mandy, on February 25, 2010 at 3:19 PM Posted in Planning 7 33

So our wedding venus is this great place by the river, and it's a "Green" venue. They are trying to be self sustaining. They even offered to buy 60 more "real" plates so that we didnt have paper and platic in the garbage. So my question is, what is a good alternative for our flower girls to throw? Any ideas?

Maybe flower seeds or bird seeds?

I've seen a lot of flower girls carry pomanders down the aisle.

Bird seed? I am not sure on this one. Maybe just not throw anything. she can still have flower petals in her basket, just not throw them.

Just watch throwing flower seed. They may not want flowers growing where you are throwing Smiley smile

I'd be wary of throwing bird seed if there are any hungry birds around. Grass seed? Colored sand?

Maybe just have them carry smaller bouquets.

My flower girl is going to carry two single roses... When she gets to the front of the church, she will present them to my mother and FMIL

She could blow bubbles....it doesn't impact the environment and there is no clean-up (unless the bubble solution is spilled)

The flower petals are usually the discard from when the boquets are made, and are of course biodegradable....so ya, I'm with the pp's. What's not green?

Oh, yes, let me explain. I'm having a flower free wedding, so I never considered pedal, but I guess you are right, I could have them throw real pedals....and they are green. The flower seeds were out because they didnt want flowers growing everywhere, I asked. They mentioned, since one of my colors it purple is lavendar buds, but my flower girls dont like the smell.....children are so cute lol.

Ooh, I like the bubble-blowing idea. I might steal that. :-)

(I was thinking about this myself because we're going to be at a state park in the desert, and I suspect they won't want us throwing petals all over the place.)

You could go for dissolvable confetti like ecofetti. http://ecoparti.com/toec.html

Since we are getting married in fall, I'm having my flower girls use leaves.

You could have them wave streamers (that would be super cute!). Check out this link for a great DIY streamer idea that could be applied here:

I've lost the directions for the project, but I used to do an experiment with my preschoolers that would preserve the color and flexibility of fall leaves for a bit... I think it involved putting the stems in a sugar/water solution. You could probably find it if you do an internet search.

We are using leaves. We are planning on going up to the area where the venue is to collect leaves.
