Flower Girl too old?

Angel, on October 24, 2019 at 4:51 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 17
Ok, I don't completely agree with age cut-offs and what not... But, my fiancé and I have been together for 7 years now and since the beginning I've always spoken with my little sister about her being the flower girl (and she still looks forward to it and is excited). She was 5 when they met, but 12 now (I'm 23). I don't want her as a bridesmaid... But, is she too old to be a flower girl?

Most people will probably say 12 is too old, but I think it's subjective. Do whatever makes you and your sister happy. If you do think she's too old, you could make her a junior bridesmaid.

As long as she doesn't feel "too old" I don't think so. It's just another spot to honor someone special to you. I have seen flower girls who aren't old enough to walk be pulled in a wagon down the isle, there are no rules!

I would suggest having her as a junior bridesmaid rather than a flower girl as 12 seems a bit too old for a flower girl.

My 11YO will be my flower girl. My wedding, my rules. She won't be wearing white, but the same color as the bridesmaids.

The ONLY thing that would make her “too old” to be your flower girl would be if SHE felt she was too old. If she wants to do it— that makes her the perfect age.

I agree with this! Let her decide what "role" she wants: flower girl or junior bridesmaid. It really does NOT matter. Daughter's 4 & 8 year old flower girls carried small bouquets because the venue didn't want them to toss petals. It would have made no difference whatsoever if they'd been called junior bridesmaids (or bride's monkeys or anything else...), absolutely no impact except the 8 year old desperately wanted to be a "flower girl."

12 is definitely old enough to decide if she wants to do it or not. If she does, great! If not, also great! Smiley smile

This is really up to her if she thinks she is too old for this role. One of my flower girls was 11 and she loved being a flower girl even though I offered her a jr BM position.

I would just ask your sister. She's old enough to make the decision.

I agree with PPs—let her decide if she’s too old. Yours, your fiancés, and hers are really the only opinions that matter on this. If she doesn’t want to anymore, I agree that having her as a junior bridesmaid could be a good way to include her.

If SHE wants to be- let her. It is YOUR wedding and at the end of the day it is You and your Husband that matter in the Happiness department.

Would her being a flower girl make you happy? Even if it’s only because it is making her happy? Do It.

It’s something she has looked forward to for a very long time- and it’s epic she still wants to be!

My daughter is 13 and is our flower girl. Some people might think it's too old but it's my wedding and I wanted her to be a flower girl. She loves it. Do what makes you happy.

If she wants to be the flower girl, then let her be the flower girl in my opinion. The only thing is though is that a lot of girls that age will see being a flower girl as too babyish for them, and they'd rather be a junior bridesmaid.
