Flower Girl

Mallory, on August 29, 2019 at 3:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 11
Soooo long story, short. My grandmother will be the flower girl at our wedding, but my fiance isn't a fan about it due to personal reasons. I dont want to hurt my grandmother's feelings, plus i like the idea of it since its always been her dream to be one. So i was thinking about having her walk down the aisle with our corgi, Ellanore. Thoughts?

If our venue allows it, of course.

I think your FS needs to be onboard before you make these decisions. You’re marrying them, not your grandma. Wedding decisions are up to the two of you only.

I would talk to your fiance about all future wedding decisions BEFORE making them or telling anyone else. But I'd tell him this decision has to stick if he can handle it, since you already asked prior to talking to him.

I agree with Caytlyn. You need to get to the bottom of why they don’t want her in the wedding. If they thinks it’s embarrassing or inappropriate for an adult to be the flower girl that can be discussed. If they dont want to give your grandma a position in the wedding because of issues between them that’s a different story and it would be best to hear them out.

I talked to him before asking her to be the flower girl. After a few weeks of the topic he for some reason didnt realize which grandmother i was talking about. Thats why i said long story

Let me type the story out...

I asked my fiance for his thoughts on my grandmother being the flower girl. He said he didnt care and that she could be. So i ask her and she got all excited.

Fast forward a few weeks later, the subject came back up somehow. But he didnt realized which grandmother i was talking about, even though i told him which one, but it didn't process. So he isn't to fond of it.

I brought up the part of having her walk with our puppy down the aisle and je seemed okay with it. This was discussed a few months ago, havent talked about it in awhile now.

I was just looking for thoughts on having a puppy in the ceremony as a "flower dog"

I don't like the idea of dogs in ceremonies. It's unpredictable and way too many people around.

Does he not like that specific grandma for some reason?

Ouch you already asked her and now he's having 2nd thoughts. I think FH really needs to relax a little on this one. He initially agreed. Then to ask her to walk the dog instead seems insulting unless she absolutely loves your pup.

I’m not a fan of dogs in weddings. Then you need to find someone to either leave and bring the dog home when their part is done, or have someone babysit the dog the whole wedding, which who wants to do that? Just a few things to think about. I do think it’s totally adorable to have grandma as a flower girl tho!
