Flower petals for the aisle

GreektoIrish2017, on July 30, 2016 at 11:47 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 22

If you're doing petals down your aisle, How many did you buy? I was thinking a couple hundred would be sufficient but I used a calculator on this site petal garden.com and it is saying I will need 5,000! Does that sound right? I'm not having a flower girl or anyone throw them I just want the aisle to be pre decorated with petals around the edges.

It depends on how covered you want your aisle to be. We bought 10000. And it wasn't as covered as I wanted it to be still.

At the edges like petal side runners, or just scattered?

It will probably take several thousand for the runners, for any type of decent coverage. A couple of hundred petals doesn't go far.

Yeah, petal runners will take lots and lots, at least 10,000 for what you're looking at.

I'm having our florist do it. I want that same look, but we're required to use real petals, and thank God because they're cheaper!!

ETA: since cleanup can be a bitch with artificial petals, have you considered getting the little 12" spools of tulle and hot gluing the petals down, so you just have to unroll each side down the aisle, then pick them back up when you're all done?

I can't tell you how many petals we used to line the aisle, but it was a ton. There was probably 10- 15- 2 gal ziplock baggies full of petals.

I didn't spread them as thick as the pic you posted - but they were beautiful.

Found a pic. Yea, looks like you are wanting many more than we had (thicker scatter). And now that I think of it, we had some bags of petals left. And 3 FG baskets were almost full after the wedding.

I'm using punched out heart confetti and glitter, my wedding colors. My flower girl is spoiled by me and I'll give her what she wants lol! She told me flowers are too pretty to walk on! Hahah! It's an outside wedding and venue said it was ok. Maybe look for a better alternative!

I never thought of gluing them on, that's a terrific idea! Thank you. It's outdoors and I was worried about a sea breeze coming through and blowing them around

Nichole, you have to pick up all of the confetti and glitter, right? That sounds like it could take someone awhile. I'm surprised an outdoor venue was okay with that.

It depends how long your aisle is and how dense you want the coverage. I also used 5,000 petals. In hindsight, I wish I had gotten 10,000 for denser coverage but it still looked pretty!

5000 should be good if scattered.

Totally depends how long your aisle is, how thick/wide you want the scatter, what the color is, and if you expect a breeze or wandering guests (ushers can help with that last one)

I think I'm going to go with these colors. 100' runner and the ceremony is outdoors at a park overlooking the beach so I do think it'll be breezy being by the water

Do you have a florist? They should be able to give you an accurate estimate of the number of petals you'll need. It's hard for anyone else to help you when they haven't seen your location.

You can definitely still order them online. I'd show your florist (once you book one) your inspiration picture and see if they have a recommendation of a number. My florist has been very open to giving suggestions, even if it's about something we aren't asking her to do for us. Smiley smile
