Flower Preservation from Dominican Republic to Canada??

Keisha, on January 3, 2024 at 4:18 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 7

Hi There, I am getting married in the Dominican in May and I would LOVE to bring my bouquet back to Canada with me, any google search I have done beats around the bush and is not clear whatsoever on the rules of bringing back flowers from DR after they have been cut (cannot grow in Canada etc). Has anyone done a destination wedding and had their bouquet preserved/made into art/dried out and able to take it back cross borders? Thank you for any suggestions.

Did you get any useful information from Bringing food, plant and animal products into Canada (cbsa-asfc.gc.ca) ?

It seems the basic idea is that cut or dried plants are not seen as a threat compared to live plants.

Yeah I saw that, I also sent in a request to confirm this but I think I may just hang the bouquet upside down when we return to the resort and carry it through customs...see what happens.

Are you close enough to an airport, cruise ship port, or border to ask in person? Have a bouquet with you.

It is a bit risky trying to walk nonchalantly past the border people.

We are not close to an airport unfortunately, although I have been debating calling a cbsa agent and trying to speak to someone on the phone who can verify if this is allowed or not. I have also started looking into flower preservation companies in DR that can do that for us before we come home, that way it is not a live/fresh flower and there is no way for the flower stem to be re-potted etc.

    Hi Keisha,

I’m getting married in Dominican in March and was wondering the same thing. Could you share what you were able to find out about bringing your bouquet back to Canada? It would be very much appreciated!! Thanks in advanced!

Congratulations Antoinette! I hope you have an amazing time with guests. I have not yet found a solid answer, and my wedding planner has not run into a bride wanting to bring her bouquet back so we are both searching for the answer. I have found some vendors in Punta Cana that can do flower preservation, so will have to look into that further of if it is realistic to get done in such a small time frame. If you try to just bring it back and declare it at customs (which i may do) let me know how it goes!
I have been with my fiancé since we were in highschool so I still have our corsage and boutonniere pinned in a photo box from prom and was hoping to do something similar with our wedding florals.

Hi Keisha and Antoinette! Congratulations to both of you on your weddings. I am checking in to see if either of you were able to bring your bouquets over and/or found a flower preservation and had any issues bringing it back over to Canada?

Would love to hear your processes if you are open to sharing.

    Thanks in advance!
