Flower Seeds/favors

Is anyone else doing flower seeds as a wedding favor? We are having our reception in a garden so I figured it would a cute idea but I have no clue where to find the seeds in bulk at because I want to make my own packaging for them. Any ideas???

I see a LOT of the same vote to scrap this idea for a seed favor, but like Deanna, I too am doing seed packets (quel orginial, I know), and also doing sweet treat favors.

So, my counter question to the "scrap it" comments is, if you were a guest at a wedding and the seeds were HERB seeds, not flower seeds, would that make a difference?? I feel like herbs (like basil especially) a) grow fast, and b) are more widely appreciated and would stand a higher chance of actually being planted? Or am I totally off the mark here?

@Deanna - what are your thoughts? Are you still doing seed packets? I ordered the little envelopes for mine ages ago, so I'm not giving up on it! :-) Just wanted to see who else was going through with it.

MIL did wildflower seed bombs as a favor for our Engagement party- we found them on Etsy and we were able to find ones that were native to our area. If all of your guests are local something like this might work. (They literally work by you throwing them in the dirt with some water. )

    Marie,

Yes I am still doing them! I have a lot of people in my family who garden, and if people don't want to take them I can donate them somewhere after the wedding or give them to the people who do garden.
I was honestly just asking where people got their seeds from for this idea, but of course I got comments saying to ditch the idea, but oh well I'm still doing it haha.

Yes, girl! Do you! I can share the Etsy shop I used for my envelopes, too, if you need a referral.

Our wedding is in New Orleans, and I grew up cooking/went to culinary school/have a whole bunch of friends in the industry and family who love, love, love cooking. And it's Nola, where food is the #1 most important thing you do. So I was just thinking maybe I'd do herb seeds instead. Who doesn't LOVE fresh basil?? And it's so easy and fast to grow. Am I crazy?

I love this idea and plan on doing something similar at my wedding! However in reading through the comments I am realizing that as a guest, you wouldn't really want seeds. I love the idea of the watering can full of treats, but saw you said there will already be lots of sweets. I also saw something about "seed bombs" which sounds like a great idea! I do not know where to get seeds.

Story time: My mom has a huge green thumb and once upon a time my brother brought home a baby spider plant in a cup from boy scouts. the plant grew bigger and bigger and has lived for almost 10 years. Spider plants grow easily by cutting off a piece and putting it in a cup with some dirt. My mom has given out pieces of this spider plant in cups for every occasion, Including as gifts at my graduation with stickers of my cap and gown picture on the cup. My cousins still have theirs in their bathroom. moral of the story - find a plant that is low maintenance, and pretty much do all the work (dirt and plant) for them and people will use and keep them! (seeds take a lot more work)

You go girl! I really dislike when you are trying to find advise and people tell you not to do you. Edibles are over done and honestly my friends and family have ended up bringing the edible gifts home and tossing those too. You can't please everyone.
I think this is a wonderful idea. Especially if your family and friends are avid gardeners. My dad grows vegetables for a local farmers market and my mom grows flowers for all our family. So I KNOW the flower or veggie seeds would be used.
Pick something you know they would like. For my family they'd love the tomato seeds or the tulips.
