Flower/bouquet Alternatives🌷

Hello Everyone! 🌸🌹🌺🌻🌼🌷🌿🍃🍂🍁

Florals and greenery can be a major, and pricey component in wedding planning. How important are florals to you? I would love to see what everyone's visions are!

Whether it be fresh, silk, paper, felt, or sola wood, I want to see it all!

If you did alternatives to the traditional bouquets, let us see! Some alternatives I've seen include: hoop bouquets, rescue pups, lanterns, corsages, fans, or just no flowers at all!

Not alternative! However I made all of my bouquets/center pieces, and I got the florals from Michael’s/Hobby Lobby and the bouquets costMe less than a hundred for all four, and twelve centerpieces for $80 total!

Florals were not super important to me. We got married outside, at a vineyard, and really wanted the vines and the foliage around us to stand out. We did use real flowers for all bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, arch décor, and table décor, but we didn't have any extra flowers anywhere.

As a bouquet alternative, we had friends that used multi-colored dream catchers! It was unique and made for beautiful photos.

I like how you wanted your venue's foliage to stand out! The dream catchers are also a great idea that I've never thought of!

I'm only ordering one bouquet so I think it wont be too much of an expense.

Ughh flowers have been the biggest stressor for me in wedding planning! Mostly because I don't really have much of an opinion on them, but people keep asking me what specific flowers I'm choosing (and I have no idea!!). We're also in the process of choosing a new florist, so that's a bit of a headache to also try to explain to them that we have no clue what we want, but we need bouquets/corsages/boutonnieres. I had initially looked at Sola wood flowers, but quickly learned that I don't have the skills or patience to put together my own bouquets. We're considering just letting the florist put together whatever they think will look good (with a few minimum requests). Otherwise, for my fiance and I, flowers will be kept to a bare minimum (just bouquets/etc for wedding party) - our centerpieces will not include flowers.

I really love flowers but it was so expensive so i went with fake for my bouquets and wedding party florals.

I agree that flowers can be a big stressor because it adds so much to a wedding as far as color and details go! Luckily, the florist we booked likes to create Pinterest boards with her clients, which allows her and the client to add and takeaway pins onto the shared board! This has helped a lot with showing her what our vision is and what type of flowers we think are nice!

We're also being minimal with our florals. Only myself and my bridal party will have a bouquet, and my FH is the only one wearing a boutonniere. The mothers and grandmothers will carry a single stem, and our centerpieces will just be scattered leaves!

Yes, flowers are very expensive! That's great that you found an alternative that worked best for you! I was grateful enough to have a florist that asked our budget, and worked with us on keeping it within that budget!

Smart! I've seen many brides that only order one bouquet, which is smart and cost efficient! Especially when most bouquets get left on a table for the remainder of the day!

The bouquet is very important to me. I am going with fresh. I actually love clay flowers which it’s also pricey, but it last very long and I can keep it inside the shadow box together with my dress. My mom said “true love true flowers” 🤐 This is the bouquet I want it, made of my favorite flower but fresh would be way too expensive because of the wedding location. Beside, it’s a sensitive type of flower. I got a quote of over $1,000 for both fresh or clay. So I have to choose a different flower type.

Oh wow, I never knew clay flowers were an option!

I'm also going with fresh flowers! I toyed around with the idea of silk flowers, but the florist we ended up booking respected our price budget, while also making sure all of the elements we want are included in her package for us!

Also, are those Lily of the Valley?! That's my birth month flower, and one of my favorites! Smiley shame

Oh flowers 🤦🏼‍♀️ LOL I think that has been the biggest surprise for me in all this wedding planning. I knew they were expensive, and I was never a girl who loved getting flowers or envisioned having a bunch of them for my wedding, so I had just planned on either strictly candle centerpieces (maybe with a little greenery) , or maybe having
some really simple, inexpensive fake flowers. I honestly wasn’t even sure if I wanted to carry a bouquet. Flash forward a year, and flowers are now one of our biggest expenses. We are doing all real flowers now, and I have also decided to carry a bouquet. I want a moody jewel tone vibe. These are the inspiration pictures I gave the florist for reception flowers

However, I am contemplating completely changing my vision with the flowers, now that I’ve had to reschedule and have had more time to think about it. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am OBSESSED with Autumn. We are getting married in the Fall, but our wedding is going to be in New Orleans, which really doesn’t have the beautiful fall foliage that we have here in the Midwest. I don’t want to have a fall themed wedding, but I’m contemplating maybe bringing a little fall into our ceremony and reception through our flowers. If so, I am thinking something like this

I’m just so torn!! I love them both! Either color scheme works great in our venue space, and flowers will be the only pop of color in our decor, so nothing else would have to be changed to accommodate a change in flower colors. Just don’t know what I want to do now!

Yes! It’s Lily of the Valley 💕 Growing up in Germany I saw people selling those flowers on the street each spring, a bunch for DM5 which was pretty reasonable. When I hiked on a rural place near a lake I saw a field of lily of the valley and I felt like a dream. The fragrance is just wow..... Nothing beats that. I planned to have my wedding bouquet made of those flowers, but they apparently are transport fragile and in Hawaiian climate they won’t last long at all ☹️. And same with me, I have been searching for faux flowers, but even the most expensive ones look so fake to me. I am a photographer so I pay attention to visual presentation and that is kind of a flaw. My dh said I am a perfectionist and he is afraid I will be disappointed with my wedding photographer and florist 🤪

I LOVE the color scheme in the very first photo and the last photo! I agree, it's so hard to decide which one is best, since both will work great in your venue! I also wasn't a huge fan of flowers, I didn't see a reason in spending so much on something that was going to die anyways and be thrown away haha! Luckily, our florist is a gem, and worked with me on creating a package that has all that we want, but within our budget! My color scheme is COMPLETELY different from yours 😂 but that's the great thing about these forums, you get to see everyone's different styles!

Here are some inspo pics I sent our florist!

I thought so! I love how delicate and sweet they look, and yes they smell divine!! That's unfortunate about the transporting and climate though.Smiley sad Maybe you can add a few sprigs of it made with clay? Same here! I searched for faux flowers that I would love just as much as fresh ones, and couldn't be satisfied (story of my life lol).

I’m so torn. I have quite awhile left to think about it though. Luckily, my florist is a sweetheart and said I could change my mind up to two weeks before the wedding. I tried showing both of them to my fiancé, and he loves them both also, so no help there! lol
I love your neutral color palette! My cousin did the same thing for her wedding at a winery, and it turned out beautiful! I really love that minty blue color in the first bouquet!

The more I look at it, the more I love the first one a teeensy bit more, but maybe you could add a little more of the burnt orange color to bring more of a autumn feel? I just love the burgundy flowers that are cascading down in the first one, not sure what they're called though! That's sweet that your florist is willing to do that!

Thank you! We're not over-the-top at all, so a neutral color palette just makes sense! I agree that the minty blue is very pretty, just not sure if we'll add that in because that would be the only blue incorporated in our wedding. There's plenty of time to figure it out though lol!
