Flowerless wedding?

hippymndy, on April 26, 2017 at 1:39 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 27

Anyone go flowerless? Any ideas for bouquet alternatives? Not a huge fan of fake flowers (might as buy real for the price of the real touch ones) and live flowers just seem wasteful. I'm trying to think how I can decorate without floral pieces.

I've seen people use brooch bouquets as alternatives to flowers. You can also use lanterns and candles for your centerpieces.

Think of your theme or what kind of idea you have with decor and centerpieces and you can do something which connects with this.

I am going to have live flowers but my bouquet will be small. We are using marbles, colored candles, lace, and ribbons to decorate.

I agree that flowers are a little pricey. (and messy if you have fidgety fingers)

Thinking candles and glass for centerpieces for sure. I guess we're going with like a starry/space theme for the reception as we're getting married in a planetarium. Lanterns wouldn't be a bad idea for the bridesmaids, probably easier to see in the dim/dark anyways. Just don't want things to look missing, i guess?

I LOVE, LOVE flowers. to me the more the better but it is sad when they are not seen for very long. We are renting and event home and will be able to enjoy the flowers for days after the wedding. But on with suggestions.

I have seen bird cages or lanterns used. There are many things you can do with candles in glass vases.

What type of wedding are you having? What colors are you having?

Honestly...I think in order to do this and have it look OK, you need to skip having a bridal party and then just not have a bouquet or boutonnieres. Then make the centerpieces more candle based. I don't think anybody will notice if the bride doesn't have a bouquet. You really only use it for a few minutes outside of photos anyway.

Fairy lights and candles will probably be used together if i can get creative hahah. i love well done floral decor but i feel guilty just bringing them home to die after so much work and money. i'm cheap. colors are purple black and a metallic can't decide on silver or gold. i don't even know how to answer "what kind of wedding" LOL formal i suppose is what you're looking for?

I know of a couple who had the bridesmaids walk down with just a single rose and I don't think the groomsmen even had any kind of boutineer. It was cheap and easy to pick up a dozen roses and be done. The centerpieces I believe were just some floating candles in a nice vase of water with gems at the bottom.

There are so many kids of glass vases/jars where you could have docorative rocks/tea lights, etc. For bridesmaids - what about large ribbons, the colors of your wedding, tied into a big bow.

rose would be nice. someone suggested each maid have a few flowers and give them to the bride to

make a boquet but id just hand it right back over after it's made? lol not sure how that'd work.

We're using little Christmas village houses for centerpieces with LED candles in them and white cotton under them!

Love the other centerpiece suggestions! I have really become obsessed with book page flowers, without knowing your theme or vibe you are going for they could be a good option as well!

We're having some sunflowers here and there, but no real florist or floral arrangements.

My bridesmaids bouquets are being made from pinecones. Same with the boys. Then my fiance and I will have the sunflower versions because the yellow stands out.

For my friend's wedding, she had us carry paper flowers and she carried a giant one. I think she sad they were like $6 each on Etsy? P.S. @kelsey love the pinecone idea!

If you are getting married in a planetarium and it will be kind of dark (LOVE THIS), how about glow sticks bouquet? You can also put them inside bottles and jars for the centerpieces. Or, how about making "Planets" for your centerpieces. I am sure you can find a ton of ideas on Pinterest.

I am only doing personal flowers. My centerpiece is a deer bust painted gold and candles. My fiancée's last name is Dearr and we're incorporating it into invites/favors/centerpieces.

Thanks for the suggestions ladies. didn't think glow sticks that's kinda bad ass! wonder how i could incorporate into the reception without it being tacky. ceremony will be mainly focused on the dome so we won't be decorating in there at all, no point lol. reception is in an old 1920s bank so it's got some class and charm, i'd like to carry that over through the decor there. pine cones would be cute for our october wedding.

Becca O, i LOVE that. omg i wish i would have thought of that we have a dickens dept 54 city with hundreds of houses. wow i'm so jealous. it's going to be magical

What about an item that would signify you and your fiancé? Like for readers doing a book. Maybe something to accent your wedding theme. Parasols, a clutch, a lantern, mason jar, dream catcher, a fan.

I'm planning on buying bouquets from a farmers market and making my own out of them. They are so reasonable. If your wedding is in October, you could carve out small pumpkins, to use as vases for flowers. If you are worried about them wasting, I've seen where people take them to nursing homes after the wedding.

I'm doing flowers for bouquets only. Just far too much money for me to want to spend.
