Flowers for bridal party

Cynthia, on February 22, 2021 at 1:34 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 9
Hi all,

As wedding planning continues, my FH and I need to decide on flowers. We are only doing flowers for the bridal party( my bouquet, bridesmaids bouquet, small ones for flower girls, and the boutonnières). We have purchased DIY from Sola Wood and a sample of silk ones. We are going back and forth between DIY sola Wood, already made silk flowers, real flowers from a florist or real flowers from a grocery store.
In all honesty, I want real flowers as I just love the look and smell of them. But, it is hard to say yes due to the cost. In thinking about real flowers from a grocery store or DIY one, it seems daunting and overwhelming.
The Wood ones are nice but I’m so nervous that they will break in transport or in moving around.
How did you all decide what type of flowers to use? I really want our photos to look nice which is why I don’t want to make the wrong decision. If you got real flowers from a florist, was the price worth it for you?

I was in a similar situation when I started looking at flowers. I was originally going to settle for fake flowers but decided to make an appointment with a local florist just in case. My best advice to you would be to go to a local florist for an initial consultation and tell them your budget up-front and ask what they would be able to provide within your budget.

Another option is to only purchase your bouquet and FH's boutonnière to be real flowers and then get fake flowers for the others. The bridesmaids might enjoy being able to keep their bouquet. Hope that helps!

I knew before we ever even got engaged that I wanted real flowers when I got married so once we did get engaged we researched the average cost in the area we got married for a florist and included the cost within our budget so there was never a question as to whether we would have real or fake flowers. The only fake flowers at our wedding were in the water fountain. I didn't think it was necessary to have real flower petals that were just getting wet so I was fine with them being fake. Otherwise, the rest of the flowers were real.

The cost of a florist wasn’t worth it to us. Sola flowers are gorgeous!

So we have a tiny wedding party & elected to include the parents for corsages/bouts. So in total I have my bouquet, one bridesmaid bouquet, 6 bouts, 3 corsages, & a toss bouquet.
    Local florist: $1398Sola flowers: $450Silk flowers: $320 (SomethingBorrowedBlooms)Silk flowers: $212 (WeddingFlowersForRent)
So we naturally went with WFFR as the cheapest option since the quality is the same as SBB. In photos they look the same as real flowers.

If you use glycerine for the sola flowers it makes them softer and less brittle. You can also spray scents on them that you like! I"m using Sola, because then I can dye them how I want and I'm allergic to real flowers.

I feel the same way - I love the look and smell of real flowers, but the cost made me rethink! I decided I really wanted real flowers and knew I'd be too particular if I tried to arrange my own bouquets and boutonnieres, but I was able to find an affordable florist in my area and am ordering all the personal flowers through them. For centerpieces, I bought bud vases and will order flowers from fiftyflowers.com and arrange them myself (much less daunting than a bouquet!). Only downside to this plan is I'll need to pick up and transport everything and have my venue's DOC decorate, but it's worth the savings to me!

Real flowers for everyone gets pricey so fast! Not sure how many are in your wedding party (groomsmen, bridesmaids, other attendants, moms and dads), but all that adds up. My suggestion would be to splurge on *your* bouquet and maybe go with silk/wood for everyone else. Your bouquet will be a primary focal point for so many close up photos and group photos (your photos and overall wedding party photos) and your bouquet can be repurposed into sweetheart table decor or be included in “details” photos. There is a lot a photographer can do to maximize the aesthetic value of your bridal bouquet so I would splurge there and go very simple with everything else.

I agree with PP. Can you do real flowers for you and fake for the rest? There is no beating real flowers in your bridal bouquet, and let's face it--that bouquet will be in nearly all of your formal photos. But honestly, if you did fake flowers for the rest, I don't think anyone would notice. My advice would be to splurge on the real deal for yourself and don't worry about getting real flowers for the others if your budget doesn't allow it

From what we looked at, fresh flowers are actually cheaper than silks. Whether you go through the local grocery store, Costco.com or fiftyflowers.com

I have to agree with you, nothing beats the beauty of real flowers. I knew right away that I had to have real flowers at my wedding. And there’s no way I wanted the stress or pressure of having to try to arrange and transport them myself. Yes, going through a florist is more expensive, but I feel like it is worth it in the end because it removes all stress from you. If you really love and want real flowers, I would suggest speaking to several local florists. Tell them your budget and the number of bouquets/boutonnieres you need, and they can show you examples of what they could do within your price range.
