Flowers from Costco

queenbee, on February 14, 2018 at 12:46 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 10
So FH and I are currently in the process of ordering the flowers and decor for our wedding. We originally started with a budget of $2000 max (which I still think is ridiculous for flowers), and the planner was able to get us right around that mark. We will be supplying them with wooden table chargers (we know someone who has a wood mill) and mason jars instead of renting them through the florist who is on site at the venue. We recently decided that we want to cut the budget even more, as for 3 bouquets, 8 boutonnières, and 3 corsages they’re charging over $400 with taxes and labor fees.
We have a Costco membership, and Costco sells floral on their website. What I would like to do is buy roses, greenery filler, and baby’s breath from Costco and make the bouquets, boutonnières, and corsages that we would be removing from our floral order. We would also use the flowers in the extra mason jars we will have for aisle decorations at the ceremony.
Have you used Costco for any of your florals or done any DIY for your bouquets, etc? I would like to know if you think it was worth it to save some money or was it too much of a hassle to do it yourself?

Are you handy and crafty? Perhaps go buy a small amount and practice to see how easy it is for you. Then you will know if the hassle is worth it to you.

Have you looked at the pre-made bouquets at Costco? I would be more comfortable doing that than trying to make them yourself.

We used Costco for bouquets, boutonnieres, and corsages. For the rest of the flowers for aisle, arch, and centerpieces, we did DIY silk flowers. For us it was worth it to save some money.

I would not be trying to DIY the flowers that will be most photographed. You are talking about saving a truly tiny amount of money here, proportionately. It's not worth the time and hassle.

If you were talking about cutting your entire $2,000 order to a Costco $300-$400 package that would be one thing, but a hundred or two hundred isn't worth it for the stress.

ETA- your florist may not even allow you to do this, depending on your contract. They worry that if they do some of your flowers but not all, that their name will be associated with all and they won't want it connected to someone's DIY work. I have seen this clause before.

I know this isn't necessarily Costco related, but we ordered ours from bulkwholesaleflowers online, and got about 950 (big) stems for 1500. With vases and floral foam we'll be spending about 2000 in all. If y'all are using mason jars it would be even cheaper, maybe 1900. It is gonna be a lot of work though.

Guess I should've added that the items we would be DIY-ing would be fairly simple. Getting married in the woods and we're going for a simple, ethereal feel. I'm not big into flowers and neither is FH, the $2000 quote we currently have from our venue's florist includes all centerpieces and some larger items like our decorated alter and items hanging from the ceiling, which I would never attempt myself. But for the bouquets (bridal bouquet I am not DIY-ing!), boutonnieres, and corsages I just want something similar to the below photos, which from what I've read on how to do this, seems not too challenging. I am a crafty person, as is my mom and sister who would be helping!

That's beautiful, but be careful with lots of baby's breath. Other brides on WW have used it and said it can smell really bad when you use a lot of it. I think one bride even compared it to cat pee.
