Flowers in hair?

McKony, on January 22, 2015 at 8:18 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

Are any of you wearing FRESH flowers in your hair? I am 90% decided on doing this opposed to a bird cage for the ceremony.

I haven't met with my florist yes, doing so this Sat-maybe this will answer a lot of my questions, but I was wondering how you are attaching the flowers to your hair. Does your florist create the flower hair piece? Do they put the flowers on individual hair pins?

I'm wearing a fake flower, so I don't have real world knowledge, but I would guess it depends on how many flowers. You could pin in a single flower, but I wonder if they'd start with a corsage base for something larger or more elaborate?

What about keeping the flowers looking fresh and not wilted? That would be my concern with real... it's not like you can plop them in a vase from time to time like your bouquet.

We are having a 'planned elopement' ceremony. We have photos for 1.5hrs before our ceremony, the ceremony it's self is 10mins & then about 30min's of photos after & that is it! Wam bam lol.

Your concern is correct, but we should be good to go with fresh b/c of our situation.

I'm lost on how this works b/c this is not often done, I've only seen fresh flowers used in those head wreaths, not sure what those are called.

Usually for a large single flower, stem is pierced with u-shaped hairpin & inserted in thickest part of hairstyle. For smaller flowers, stems are wrapped around a chignon & secured with hairpins.

McKony, I'm planning on using fresh flowers also. Like Elegant said, my florist will attach the flowers to a pin and my hairstylist will put it into my updo. I'm very excited!

April in Florida is warm. Add to that the heat from your body/head. I think the flower(s) will wilt before your ceremony.

I've lived in So Fl for most of my life & I am a vendor here, very familiar with our weather. Our photos start at 6pm for a sunset ceremony. They will be in my hair for about 2hrs in total, 1.5hrs before the ceremony. Even if it was longer I would not be worried.

Remember, hundreds of weddings on the beach are done here everyday!!! Flowers are all over the place outside for hrs & hrs. The flowers will be just fine.

My main concern is how the piece will work.

I am surprised so many think the flowers will wilt, especially other vendors, have you never seen this done before? Never seen a destination wedding with tropical hair flowers?

My daughter even wore flowers in her hair all night for prom & they were fine & she was a sweaty mess afterwards.

This is kind of an example of what plan on doing.

The 3rd pic is my hairstyle & flower placement, but with fresh flowers.

The way my florist is doing this is wrapping the stems with a small wire and floral tape, and from there you can mold the wire however you need to make it stick. However i am doing a bunch of smaller florals shaped in a sort of wreath.

Hopefully that makes any sense. Your second inspiration photo most likely bunched stems together (although they look silk) and wrapped together. From there you can attach them to a barrette, bobby pin etc. if you want.

Very much looking forward to meeting with my florist to get this figured out. Thanks for the help!

My friend wore fresh flowers in her hair, and I'm pretty sure they just bobby-pinned them in. They stayed in all day/night but they were definitely wilted by the end of the night...

I'm loving this idea. I was on the fence about doing this or not. After seeing the examples, I really want to do it now.

I'm with you Sam! I love the fresh flowers in the hair, so simple & vintage. Fresh flowers are beautiful. If I didn't go with fresh I would do a birdcage, not a fan of fake flowers at all.

I am not having a reception until August, only photos & a 10min ceremony on the beach this April. My flowers will be in my hair for about 2hrs, wilting will not be a problem for me this is why I am considering this.
