Flowers real v.s fake

Ashley, on October 12, 2020 at 12:26 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 10
I would lovee to have all real flowers all over the place at the reception and ceremony a flower wall for the back drop of the photo booth.. but we deff cant afford all real flowers for everything. If I made my own flower wall with fake flowers and had random decor be fake as well is that cheap? I can't decide how I feel about it, not sure if I'm just holding on to having all real flowers.

Definitely not! There's many brides that DIY a lot their wedding decor. There are silk flowers, wooden flowers, etc. that look pretty amazing.

I had a mix of real and silk flowers, and no one could tell the difference between them. They make really high quality silk flowers that even feel real to the touch. Some florists may have them. My SIL is a florist and she uses them for events all the time because it cuts the price down for the client.

Fiftyflowers.com is very inexpensive for real flowers. Silks are not always inexpensive and can easily be more expensive than fresh exotics. Also, factor in your time and patience when going the DIY route if you are not naturally a crafty person.

I think it’ll look fine if it was fake ! Many artificial flowers look real now

I am using fake flowers and honestly in love with them more than the real ones! There are a lot of colors in fake flowers that don't really come in real flowers too! I would suggest getting fake foam or silk depending on what you are looking for. If you had a mix and match of fake and real I highly doubt that people will notice tbh! Also if you really really want real flowers you could look into local grocery stores, bulk stores, and fiftyflowers.com. There are many websites you can go to for help on DIYing your flowers!

A mix would look great! One of the local flower wall companies here uses mostly all fake anyway, from what I understand.

We did real flowers for the bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, and flower girl stuff, along with some real greenery for the tables and such, but we mixed in fake greenery for the tables too and it looked fine!

Just make sure to talk to your florist first if you want to have a mix! We looked at 12 florists in our city and not a single one of them allowed clients to have a mix between real and fake flowers, no matter who was providing the fake flowers. This was stated very clearly in our contract. So you'll want to make sure to find a florist who allows for a mix, if that's your vision

I’m having a similar issue and decided to go with a combination or real and fake flowers . You might want to check out Lings (https://www.lingsmoment.com/?gclid=Cj0KCQjw5PGFBhC2ARIsAIFIMNfmsiC_6IDrwy52WLiJdV4rKzn24B-YeVXSlFeDEdX-1_Vi1ecXbFgaAu7QEALw_wcB) I bought flowers there and they are gorgeous.

So I don't think there is a way to do a flower wall with real flowers without spending a fortune (like at least several thousand dollars on just the flower wall alone). I looked into making a sola wood flower wall and it was still going to cost me somewhere between $600-$1200 for a decent sized wall (enough for couple selfies), so I just decided not to do it.

You can buy flower wall panels that you build upon to make a wall as large as you want, but all the ones I have seen are still pretty expensive and they use low quality artificial flowers and look really cheap and artificial IMO. I'm sure there are more expensive, higher quality options that exist but I imagine these would cost a pretty penny if you wanted to cover a decent sized area, based on how pricey the cheap looking panels are.

    In general though, I
do think you can mix real and artificial flowers, but it's worth it to go with a higher quality silk flower, sola wood flower, or foam flower for your faux options vs some dollar store stuff, IMO. When you get a good quality artificial flower, the cost savings isn't that much over real flowers, but you have the benefit of them lasting more than a few days and being reusable or able to be repurposed for different events (or reselling them), being able to be assembled well ahead of time, not having to worry about a water source or freshness at all, and no issues with allergies. It might also be worth considering dried flowers for table arrangements or other decor. Again not exactly cheap, but they'll last beyond your wedding if handled carefully. I do think dried flowers would likely be too delicate for a flower wall though.

One thing worth considering for the flower wall is paper flowers. You can buy kits or make them yourselves pretty inexpensively and its a lot easier to cover a lot of area with less money using paper flowers as compared to any other option out there.
