I am a graduate student and I live in South Florida. I was not crazy about flowers until I started planning my wedding. The lowest estimate for flowers I got (of 2) was $2,000 I find this crazy for something that will get thrown out the next day. Please help! I like taller arrangements and branches...

The lowest estimate for flowers I got (of 2) was $2,000 I find this crazy for something that will get thrown out the next day. Please help! I like taller arrangements and branches so I don't know if that is a problem but I really don't care what type of flowers. Will need around 11 centerpieces and there are 6 bridesmaids and groomsmen.

    Just some helpful tips.

    - Stay away from florists that only do weddings. Go to an all event florist or an actual floral shop, where their main source of income isn't dependent on wedding arrangements.

    - Stick with flowers that are "in season". You can save a lot of money just by doing that.

    - You can use "fillers", that will make your bouquet/arrangements just as beautiful, but will cut down on the amount of flowers actually used. Think lotus pods, scabiosa pods, berries, monkey tails, dusty miller...

    - Most importantly, give your florist your budget and see what they can do in that price range.

This is my inspiration picture. We will keep the red callas, replace the other flower with white roses and the fern fonds will be replace with dusty miller.

Flowers are cheap in my area. FH and I are paying $1018 for my bouquet, the bridal party, family members, 15 centerpieces, and 3 arrangements for the church. We're using in season flowers, which has helped cut the cost down a lot.

I just agreed on prices with my florist at $1541, I know it's more than what you want (that includes tax and 200 set up fee).

I have a much smaller bridal party that you, my bm bouquets are $100, I have 10 center pieces at $54 each, 2 side table bouquets, 4 flowers crowns (1 for me @ $35, 3 for my FGS @25),5 corsages, 7 bouts.

Before taxes and fees it is at $1262.50

So you can do it. if you are in a major city try loiling for florists out side of the city, you might be able to get lower prices?

Also non floral center pieces or smaller ones ( my center pieces are lanterns with 3 milk glass bud vases so the are smaller and cost $18per vase)

Also don't be afraid to go back to them with a price you are willing to spend, they should be able to give you alternatives to get you to your price

Also if you can provide vases instead of buying them/renting from the florist it might save you some if you wanted something special

It really depends on your area and florist. Here $1200 is very doable.

What about doing some diy? If you can't do the bouquets, you can always diy the centerpieces. Since you like taller arrangements and branches, have you though having manzanita branches as your centerpieces? You can buy them at a flower market or even online. I believe you can also rent centerpieces from florists too, although I'm not sure how much it would be. I plan on doing my own flowers and making the manzanita centerpieces. I can make the centerpieces ahead of time and would cost less than having flower centerpiece.

Mine is less than $300 for my bouquet, 5 BM bouquets, 7 corsages, and two center pieces. Because I am using a wholesale flower outlet, where you have a "flower party" and a consultant walks you through arranging your own. They actually do really good work and it's really easy. Saved a ton.

I'm hoping to stay well below that

@maltise - I LOVE your flowers- i'm definitely also loving baby's breath its pretty and not expensive. I agree with staying "in season" most florists with recommend things that are in your budget and try to work with a look you want for a better price than the exact picture you've seen on pinterest.

I'm doing both real and fake flowers. My bouquet and the BP will have the real touch flowers ($200), but I plan to do real for the church and the centerpieces. I will order babys breath from Costco and get hydrangeas for the two church arrangements and the pews and will do those myself. I'm using vintage silver creamers as part of my centerpieces and will take one to a florist and ask her what can she do for me for $15 a piece. I figure several large flowers and a little green. I will also price doing them myself, but they will need to be VERY easy.

Yes, it's possible. will you have to sacrifice a little? yes. if you don't have specific flowers you are dead set on and open to letting your florist choose budget friendly blooms within your chosen color scheme and use lots of fillers... it is possible.

Have you tried Wholefoods? They have a floral dept that orders wholesale and can do a great job! I just got quoted for center pieces for 15-20 centerpieces, bouquets for 6 bridesmaids / groomsmen for just over $1000. The key is choosing in season flowers and ask what low cost alternatives are to styles you want and keep the arrangements small. Hope that's helpful, Good luck!!

Whether or not I'm a florist, the fact still remains that your flowers will actually be around the next day. The food you paid for? That will be fllushed away into the sewers of America (sorry, but that's the truth) while your flowers are stilling blooming in a vase. Your vendors, as professional and attentive as they were in the months and days leading up to your wedding, won't consider your call or email urgent after the wedding. So, please, keep in mind that you should get a good seven days out of your flowers after everything and everyone else is gone. Beyond that, you have your rings, your gown, photographs/videos that you're waiting for, and possibly the top layer of your cake that's sitting in your home freezer.

Okay, let's break down your floral order. Are you insistent on specific blooms? If not, that's good. Whatever your budget, there are flowers in almost every color, so you don't have to give up your color scheme in order to stay within your budget (centerpieces do not have to mimic your bridal bouquet -- just keep the color scheme the same). Give your florist your budget. As far as centerpieces go, you like tall arrangements. Many brides like tall arrangements, but they're not thrilled with the price tag. I'd suggest you'd do half tall and half short. Really, it's a beautiful look, and lots of brides go that route. Your guests' eyes, when they walk into the reception, will go immediately to the tall arrangements. You will get that bang for your buck. Ask your florist if you can supply 6 eiffel vases (if you buy them, you'll save money). If she'll do the drop in dishes with affordable stems ,your tall arrangements should be doable at your budget. Go with flowers like hydrangea (your florist should be able to spray paint them -- it looks fine -- in any color you want). They cover a lot of territory. Add inexpensive flowers -- like roses and spray roses-- in your colors and allow your florist to use the floral leaves and greenery in your tall pieces. You should have a good result. Another tall option is a cylinder vase with three or four hydrangeas (you can do this yourself), sprayed in your color. Add some curly willow in the center of the piece and you've got a tall centerpiece. Your shorter pieces can be very simple -- as long as they are color coordinated with your tall pieces, a three inch cylinder vase with a hydrangea and two roses will look beautiful and coordinated..

Bouquets? Worry about the bridal boquet. Tell your florist you don't want to spend anything more than $45 dollar on BMs bouquets. Actually, consider having your BMs carry a single, long stemmed rose. Tie a coordinating ribbon right under the bloom, and you have a nice piece. It's a simple, classic look. Use your budget on your bouquet.

Bouts are cheap. You can order them from your grocery store or try to do one yourself. You'll need a flower, a little greenery (use what comes on the floral stem), some floral tape, maybe some ribbon, and a bout pin, or tell your florist you don't want to spend over $8/bout. Make the groom's a little bigger, but for the GM, keep it simple and inexpensive.

Thanks for posting this. I just met with my florist the other day and I was really wondering if the prices I was quoted were on par with what everyone else is paying or if it was super inflated. My quote was around 2k in the Portland area.

$800, but the key was keeping our centerpieces and bridal party small. We had 4" vases and I only had an MOH, negating the necessity of BM's bouquets. We had 10, 4" centerpices, 1 5" centerpiece for our table (totally unnecessary by the the way). 2 bouts, 1 corsage for my mom, and 2 altar pieces for the church. Total cost was under $800, including my bouquet and MOH's bouquet. We got our flowers from a local grocery story who does wedding flowers.

It is possible if you're willing to put in the work. My bridesmaids and I are going to a flower Mart and making all the floral arrangements and bouquets. I'm having an outdoor rustic wedding so I'm getting away with pretty simple pieces but its still saving me a fortune!

I cannot shout out the value of this DIY wedding app enough! I literally just copy and pasted this answer from another post on flowers because we are all having the same issues.

celia is right about timing and the hard work to build things your self with little time. bit if you are not fussy about the flower variety then baby's breath and roses and carnations are a great bet bc The app has wholesale flower resources and diy craft resources AND thousands of DIY video tutorials so you do not end up with "PINTEREST FAIL" issues!!

Their Pinterest account, by the way, is INSANE! By farm this is my go to for everything for my wedding so far and drumroll.. it is only $3.99 and no ads or upgrade charges etc.

    here are links:

    https://www.pinterest.com/diyweddingapp/

    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id961137479

it is on android too but i have iphone so their website is:

    http://www.thediyweddingplanner.com/

also on their website are tutorials:

    http://www.bestweddingplanningapps.com/#!diy-wedding-tutorials/c1yao

You can get cheap flowers at Sam's or costco too, but since you are in FLA if there is a Flower mart, then that is the way to go!

    GOOD luck!
