It depends what type of plane you’re flying on and if it has a closet. If not you should be able to put it in the overhead space if you have a ticket that allows a carryon.

It will be fine. Dresses are pretty resilient. Several years ago I was engaged right out of college and his family lived in Australia where we planned to get married. Long story short, I had a huge ballgown (90's trend) that I flew with from Chicago to Tel Aviv to Amman to Dubai to Singapore to Sydney, switching planes at each of those cities. My dress was no worse for the wear. Even if you have to fold it to fit in the overhead compartment it will be fine once you take it out and steam out the wrinkles.

I also have to travel with my wedding dress and my friend travelled with hers last year. Place your dress and your FH’s attire in one garment bag (like the one your dress comes in at a bridal store as they’re large enough to contain trains). The garment bag is now a carry on for one of you. The other should bring a carry on suitcase/bag with your undergarments, accessories, any other items you absolutely need for your wedding. I also suggest calling your airline ahead of time to check to see if they have a closet that they can hang your dress in. Some airlines don’t have closets, but if you explain to the stewardess/steward that it’s your wedding dress, most will try to accommodate you by allowing passengers to fill overhead bins and then lay your dress across their luggage so it lays flat.

I just got married and had to fly with my wedding dress. The plane was too small and did not have a closet for the flight attendant to hang it. Luckily, I am short, and my train was also held up on the hanger so that the length of my gown was about my height. The only way I got through that flight was because I splurged on first class tickets and it gave enough room for me and my husband to lay my dress out so it didn't have to fold. First class seats are much bigger and they usually have hangers for suit coats that could work for your dress.

Like everyone else says, it depends on the size of your plane, really. DONT CHECK IT IN BAG.
