fmil and her flip flops..

Sara, on May 24, 2019 at 8:37 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
So... Just how many times and how many ways can I tell my FMIL that she can't wear flip flops to our wedding? I love my FMIL, but holy cow, we're 3 weeks out and I don't want to deal with this anymore. She is wearing a lovely sage green dress to our wedding, FFIL is wearing a tux for crying out loud. Its developed into a rather fancy, classy wedding, the ceremony will be in the garden of a historic estate, and the reception will be in the art gallery. She has foot ailments, wouldn't be caught dead without her orthotics etc etc, wants her orthotic flip flops... I suggested a dressy classy flat loafer that she could put her insole orthotics in. Today she sends me a photo of white rhinestone flip flops. Why are we still talking about this... Yes, they're made in Italy and about as nice as a flip flop can be.. but wait, I thought you needed orthotics... what? Ugh. Should I just say yes and let this go already? Do I really even care? What does "etiquette" say about this?

Let her and her flip flops be. If she has foot or orthopedic issues she may be wearing them because of how comfortable she is in them. Maybe her feet swell when she stands and a closed toe shoe with inserted insoles won’t work for a wedding. I’d let it go, not the hill you want to die on.

Let it go. I was at a wedding where the mother of the groom wore a long white dress that could’ve been worn as a wedding gown. Things can always be worse.

It’s not really up to you what she wears anyway. It’s nice that she’s asking for your input, but definitely not required. She’s a grown woman. Let her wear whatever shoes she wants. I doubt that’s what you’ll be focused on during your own wedding.

Unfortunately, there's not much you can do. I don't think too many people will care if your FMIL wears flip-flops! Don't let this bother you too much Smiley smile

Just let it go! My grandpa has trouble walking and he will be wearing sneakers because it's the only thing he's comfortable in! No one will be looking at her feet anyway lol. Don't stress yourself out over something this petty!

No one is going to carry about her feet. Let her wear the flip flops. It's not going to hurt anything and definitely not worth stressing over. Tell her to get you a pair for the reception and y'all can match!

Let it go. I don't even know what kind of shoes my MIL had on for my wedding. She could have been barefoot for all I know (she wasn't). As long as shes not trying to wear ratty holey old shoes, shes fine.

I almost chose sparkly ridiculous flip flops for myself, hahaha. I still kind of want a pair, honestly. Glad you decided to let her have this one!

You can't dictate what others wear to your wedding

Offer to take her for a pedicure the week before. If her feet are well groomed, who cares?
