FMIL chose a Gospel Song to Mother/Son Dance...

BreeCheez, on February 12, 2015 at 6:36 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8

I asked FMIL (since we are not having a DJ) what song she would like to use for the Mother/Son Dance. & I ask Fh at the same time.

His Reply: Whatever she wants

Her Reply: Whatever He wants.

Really... Okay so no one wants an input... So I send FMIL a list of 100 M/S dances... SOOO many good options & she chooses "You Raise me UP" by Josh Groban.

Fine by me (thought I had only ever listened to about 5 seconds of this song) So I play it last night for FH & HE hates it... It's a gospel song....It has nothing to do with Mother/Son...There were some he loved like "Simple Man" & "The Baby" made him tear up while he was washing dishes... I told him he needs to talk to her, b/c he HATES her choice. I told him he should have put his thoughts out there from the start. BTW FH is not a fan of church so, her song makes him uncomfortable. She is very religious, so it fits.

I feel bad, but I am ROFL in my head, b/c they should have communicated.

Fh needs to talk to mom, not you. They both said whatever the other wants and mom picked one out. I personally love that song and I'm thinking about incoorperating it somewhere, but not sure. Course I love Josh Groban.

You Raise Me Up is gospel? It's played on my local secular radio station all the time. It's a beautiful song.

Personally it's not my style & it's not his either, but I told him HIS mom chose it b/c he did not chose a song, & if he doesn't like it HE needs to talk to her, it's not my deal.

@Amber S. Listening to the words, I'd say the song is probably about GOD. It may be on an adult mix station, but IMO it's gospel. (of course I could be wrong, but I do know JG has quite a few religious songs) I think it's pretty no doubt, but I suggested to him before he flat out tells her no, to try & find a different version of it. He may like it by someone else better.

Hm, I can definitely see it being about a parent/child relationship too. Listen to some real gospel music...there is a big difference. But I guess to each their own.

I get it isn't your style. That is understandable.

But you told his mom to choose and it doesn't sound like you (by you, I mean you or FH) told her anything was off limits. FH didn't want to pick. So, she did pick, and now he's whining about it? Man up. If he doesn't like it, he really should have sat together with her and listened to some songs and chosen together from the beginning, or picked the song himself if he was going to be picky about it. He gave the choice to his mom, he needs to let her have it.

He should let his mom know he doesn't like the song and see if they can find a song together.

If it makes you feel better, FH chose a Portuguese song to dance to with his mom. I don't speak Portuguese and have no idea what the lyrics are.
