FMIL suggested mock wedding party?

Pabby13, on March 22, 2016 at 12:56 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 26

With a year until our wedding date coming up fast FMIL and I were talking about having a little get together on the year until date, I love any excuse to throw down some drinks with friends so why not?

Today though while at work I look at my phone and have basically a million texts from her, she has come up with the idea to do a mock wedding party.... Ummm wtf? No. She said she went to one a few years back and it was really funny and a lot of fun.

I'm just really not interested in doing anything like that and would rather just have everyone together for a normal bbq type get together, but once she gets an idea she can't get it out of her head. So I'm leaving FH in charge of deactivating that idea.

Has anyone actually been to one of these?

As she explained to me the one she went to was 2 random people were picked to be the bride and groom and wore whichever part they were and someone was the officiant with a "funny" ceremony written to perform.

    NO NO NO NO

IMO this is just way to awkward and too much effort, I love my FMIL but there is no way this is happening.

Idk, anything that combines "wedding" and "mock" seems like a surefire way to have a good time and respect your intended nuptials.

That sounds so awkward for everyone involved. I'd put a big no to that

Trust me... It's a huge no. Some of her wedding/party ideas are a little bizarre sometimes.

I'm still confused. Would this "mock wedding" happen at the real wedding? So two strangers would pretend to get married at your actual wedding?

I think I've been to one of these! I was ten years old and I forced my little sister to "marry" the neighbor kid.

Okay so our wedding date is May 13, 2017. We are having a little get together this May 13, 2016 as a "yay our wedding is in a year". So she suggested that this May party would be a "mock wedding party".

Just NO. It may have been funny to her, but this is about you and FH and I don't see the fun or wisdom in have a 'MOCK' wedding or wedding reception. If she wants to throw a Jack and Jill party then fine. But NO 'mock' anything. Just BAD!
