Foil Highlights vs Balayage

CountryBride, on June 11, 2018 at 11:48 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 12

Hi everyone,

I am about a year away from my wedding. I have been doing blonde highlights in my hair since 2000. I started with cap highlights then switched to foils (because no one does cap anymore or wouldn't with the length of my hair...past shoulder) I was looking into Balayage. Not sure if I should switch again. I natural looking highlights. I get so nervous when I get my hair done. I have had to switch hairstylists a few times.

I am not sure what to do. If I try balayage I would have to switch stylists again since my current stylist does not do it. It is also more expensive to do it. Any one out there try this? Any advice?

My hair is naturally a dark brown but with the many years of highlights it is dirty blonde until the roots show.

I feel like you’re far enough out you could try it and see if you like it. I think it looks awesome and tried to have it done but the stylist I went to didn’t understand what I wanted. I ended up with highlights instead.

    Good luck!

My friend switched to Balayage highlights and she loves it. I also like the way it looks compared to normal highlights. I don’t highlight my hair just cause I don’t have a lot of it, its real thin. But from seeing the difference with my friends. With her Norma highlights when it grows out it’s really noticeable and not pretty. But with the balayage it doesn’t which is weird since it doesn’t reach the scalp.
My opinion try the balayage it does suck to try another hair stylist but I hope it works well for you

I love balayage. It grows out so naturally but still gives you a nice pop of color. I'm all for it!

I got balayage done about a year ago. I love it! It’s almost grown out, but still looks good! I did foil highlights way back in the day and always hated when they’d start to grow out and it was obvious I had highlights. The balayage is much more natural looking and doesn’t have the harsh line the highlights have. I have dark brown hair and it took about 4hours for the whole process since she had to bleach where she was going to put the lighter color. So worth it though!

Balayage is wonderful. Looks natural and grows out beautifully. I will never go back to traditional highlights. You’ll love it!

I love balyage, I started getting it done about a year ago and will never go back to normal highlights. It’s more expensive initially but the upkeep is minimal so you save money in the long run. instead of going for touch ups every 4-6 weeks I go about every 4-6 months maybe with a toner here and there in between and it still looks great.

I would at the very least look for a stylist with good reviews and go for a consult to see if it’s aomething you would want.

You need to make sure you find a stylist that really knows what they are doing. You could also look into foil highlights with a root tap. (Its when they put a bit of a gloss/color on your roots so that it blends better with your natural hair when it starts growing out)

I'm not a huge balayage fan but only because I don't like the grown out roots look. Is that what you are going for, darker on top and lighter on bottom? I've been dying my hair for about 9 years, I'm naturally a dirty blonde but have dyed my hair bleach blonde, strawberry blonde, blonde foil highlights, fire engine red, dark brown, purple, and blue. My most recent hair was bleach blonde. I have since had some low lights put in, and I'm letting my roots grow out for the next 8 months. Closer to the wedding, I'm going to go in and have them blend it all together with low lights and high lights.

I love balayage. It’s what I get whenever I have my hair done. The maintenance is a lot less than traditional highlights and I think it looks so much more natural. I’ve bounced from one salon to the next over the last ~10 years before I finally landed at my current stylist who is amazing. I got my hair done last week and I’m not planning on having it done again until right before my wedding in October because my hair still looks good even months after I get it colored as long as I take care of it (good shampoo/conditioner, leave in treatments, non-damaging styling products). I love the look of balayage more than anything else I’ve ever tried!
