Follow up from Hayley Paige herself on gown issue

catobx, on March 23, 2018 at 12:07 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 37

Hi ya'll --

I feel super annoying posting this but I am doing it because I feel like "responses" get very lost sometimes in the many discussions on the board. I brought up my issues with the gown I ordered versus what was received, in this post here:

https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/disappointed-with-dress-once-it-came-in/df92e04fa13ec079.html?utm_source=discussion_comment&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=discussion_comment

I got a response from both salon and HP herself on the issue, and maybe it is just my enormous anxiety kicking in, but I would like to know your thoughts on the pictures posted. Am I out of my mind or is there really a big difference in the beading and appliqué work on the plus sized gown I got? I see huge gaps and even if the bust were cut down I feel like it would still look completely different from what I had ordered. Here I am turning out to be an annoying and needy bride, something I NEVER wanted. Being plus sized really is a huge burden, for everyone, it turns out. I feel awful but I want the gown I tried on. Help?

To me it looks like your bust will be fine in the normal dress once you have the correct bra on. It does look different in beading and color. I would be super pissed if this was my gown and would simply be telling them i didnt order extra coverage this dress does not look like what i tired on either fix it replace it or refund me so i can go to a shop who cares about me and the dress quality..

You’re not out of your mind! I think it does look completely different. I’d be pretty mad as well.

When I looked at your thread earlier I actually thought the beading and quality looked off

Thank you for your reply, Heather! I agree with you. I feel bad, because the salon owner is newer to the business and I just don't want to rail her with complaints - but when I showed her the pictures, I think she got it. Something has to be done, I don't know what, but I am not okay with the way the gown looks on a plus sized person versus what I ordered. It hurts, because I largely fell in love with the gown because of how my bust looked in it when I tried the sample (which, I guess, is like ten sizes too small? But it looks amazing in the picture???) For me, the added fabric was supposed to be in my stomach area, I am wide when you look at me on the side but not so much when full-frontal. Owner agreed to cover costs of the bustline fix, but I still feel it won't look right. I feel so lost. I hate to be "that girl."

Right??? It looks like a knockoff of the actual gown I ordered. I am in tears.

I think regardless if it was a plus size or not, unless you were told plus size makes certain features different, that wasn't what you ordered. I do see the differences you are talking about. Don't get me wrong, the dress is beautiful, but you should definitely love it the way you did when trying it on!! The lace work on the bust line needs to come up more and not be so far down on the underside of the dress! I really hope this all works itself out for you!!

Thank you Emilie, yes I completely agree. I feel absolutely lost. It feels as though I have been automatically "punished" for being plus sized. I don't get as beautiful of a gown as what I had pictured. It feels awful, and reminds me of the shame I feel in being bigger. I have emailed HP's PR person as she suggested, and I hope to get a comforting response. I also have the salon owner talking to her HP rep about it. I hate the idea of being "oh, THAT bride" who asked for so much but at the end of the day we paid a lot for a gown we didn't get. I hope something will be rectified, it is such a gorgeous gown, but on me I feel like a wet mop right now.

I just want to tell you I don't think you're being "that" bride, those gowns do look different.

And its HARD to shop as a plus size bride, you have to put a LOT of trust in the people making gowns. You don't always get to try one on that even remotely fits you, there is a lot of trust, and to have that trust so thoroughly broken is emotional and terrible. Thank you for being an inspiration, and fighting for what will be as beautiful as you are.

So I'm not a seamstress in the professional sense, but I've done cosplay for years and had to work with lace, beading, and corset boning in the past. Boning absolutely can be reshaped and/or cut, and if your seamstress says she can't (aka, unwilling to do it because it's difficult) find a new one. Lace and beading can also be removed from the gown, and reattatched completely how it was originally. The top half can definetely be sized down. Will it take some time? Sure. But it's completely feasible and I'm sure there are lots of lovely seamstresses that would be more than happy to help you. I'm sorry your gown didn't arrive how you imagined it, but it'll get there, and you'll look amazing!

Have they told you what they're going to do regarding the dress issue?

That’s exactly what it looks like to me. It looks like you ordered a knock off from overseas. If I was the designer I wouldn’t want my name attached to that dress. You aren’t being “that bride” You didn’t receive the dress you paid for and changes were made without your knowledge or acceptance. It’s honestly weird that someone would automatically add extra stuff to a bust without asking as I know quiet a few plus size girls that barely have an a cup. I would request that the salon either fix everything at their cost or they have another dress made with specific instructions not to add the bs and they can keep yours as a sample dress. Don’t let the fear of being a bridezilla stop you from fixing the issue

I just responded on your other thread. I had similar problems with another designer. The bodice was a mess when they sized up. The made a new bodice and shipped it out to be attached. In 24 hours (after waiting 6 months for the gown.) I would ask for this.

The dress looks different. Like you said, the cup area comes up way too far in the dress you received. And it looks lower quality. It is a gorgeous dress, but I wouldn't be happy and I'd ask for a refund or something.

I agree it does look different from what you ordered. I would be so upset! You should def have been told it would not look the same. Is the salon willing to refund or atleast exchange it? If you can at least exchange it will they do rush shipping at their cost, if you need it?

I also agree that it looks different, plus size should not make a difference in this though it should still be the same dress. They messed up and I'm really sorry this happened to you!! I feel anxious for you cause I know it's not what you want but I'm sure it can be fixed.
