Folly Beach, SC Beach House Weddings--My search for the perfect beachhouse to have our wedding.

My fiance and I wanted to have a Charleston area casual beach wedding--without breaking the bank. We came up with the idea to rent a beach house for a week and have the wedding there and it ended up being a much bigger project to find the house than I thought it would be.

However, we found one! And it is literally my dream wedding spot. I'm really excited! This was a ton of work (two different weekends going down there--we live in NC--and TONS of phone calls and emails) so I thought I'd share what I learned and my impressions from visiting about 20 different houses with the community.

It's a lot, so I'll do this over several messages. And possibly even several days.

Found another Folly Beach house that we didn't even look at --- http://www.bridaltweet.com/profiles/blogs/nicole-amp-nicholass-wedding

You'll have to do some legwork to figure out who owns it, but wanted to paste the link here in case someone is doing this search.

Note: I'm updating this because I'm now getting weekly emails asking the same questions over and over. I'm trying to answer most of them in this thread to save me time and consolidate this info for future brides. For example, my photos are here: http://blog.emilyhortonphoto.com/uncategorized/callie-will-married-at-folly/

So before you email, PLEASE be sure to check that I haven't answered your question here first or in my profile where I reviewed my vendors. (hint we had an awesome awesome caterer and photographer!) Thanks, Callie

Another Folly Beach House that we didn't look at (perhaps if this one looks intriguing to you, you could email the photographer asking where it was and asking to email the bride for details): http://www.chiphotographyofcharleston.com/tami-scott-wedding-folly-beach (gorgeous photos, right?)

Oh my gosh!!! I am having a ceremony in Summer 2012. My partner and I were just walking along the shore and saw your house! I loved it and later found it online. Unfortunately it is not available during the week we would like to stay and have the ceremony. All your information was so helpful! I'm from WI so I've been struggling looking for homes, but this really helped me out.

Thank you and I'm very jealous of everyone planning on having their wedding in/at this house!

You want EXACTLY what I want, and I just went through the disappointment of discovering the rules on Isle of Palms will prevent me from having an event in a beautiful beach house I found there Smiley sad So I love the house you chose, and I had actually come across it before in my searching but saw the grave warning of absolutely no weddings. How did you contact the owners directly to ask about this? Thanks for this super detailed post! I'm sure you will save me tons more time searching!

Thank you so much for your post! You have no idea how this has helped me. Me and my fiance are planning on getting married in SC. My family is coming in from Iowa, and I thought the beach house wedding was perfect, ecspecially being able to accomodate all of my out of town family. I saw on your post that you have been talking to brides who have had their weddings at that house or are planning too. Would you mind getting ahold of them and having them share their photos of setup and what not with me? This would help so much. I'm not going to beable to look at the place, but my sister in-law will see it in person if we decide to go with this. So any pictures, tips, or ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much! My email is ****.*****@****.****.***

UPDATE for anyone who is hoping to rent 507 E Arctic: I just want to clarify that it is their strict policy to only allow weddings up to 40 people.

Also, in response to several email inquiries I have received: The wedding/event fee (in addition to the beach house rental) for 507 E Arctic is $1500. Of course, this may have changed, so be sure to check with them, but to the best of my knowledge it is still $1500.

Your story sounds so similar in what I am going through. Our wedding is planned for Sept 8 and I have already spent too many hours on the internet searching for the right house in the budget. You have provided some useful information. My fiance is flying down from Ct and we are planning to visit some of the houses that I have researched. My question to you, do you have a back up plan in case of rain and also are you planning an evening wedding? Looking forward to more of your posts Smiley smile

I too had to create an account just so I could comment on your blog. This is information has been SOOO helpful! Thank you so much! Our wedding date is not till next year...April 27th, 2013 and my Fiance and I are also planning a Charleston destination wedding...we live in IL, but my family lives in Greenville, SC which is about 2 and a half/3 hrs away from Charleston. We love Isle of Palms but very nervous to try and host a wedding there because there are so many restrictions and most home owners don't seem very welcoming to hosting a wedding at their rental property, but I suppose we could try your approach and email them anyway because he doesn't hurt to ask! We will however definitely look into Folly beach! Smiley smile

Just wanted to log back in and let everyone know that our wedding at 507 E. Arctic was AMAZING!!!!!! I loved every second of it and the house was INCREDIBLE!!!!!!

We did a "first look" on the roof. Right after the ceremony, we had cocktails and some passed apps on the lawn & porches (We'd rented tables and some chairs that we'd put out on the lawn.) The party then mostly moved upstairs for speeches and dancing and dinner. (Although, there were people chatting and hanging out on chairs and around tables down on that lawn pretty much all night. It was a good spot to go cool off.) We used the front living room as a dance floor (if I could do it again, I would put the DJ in the corner besides the bookshelves and the granite countertop so not to block the view out the window to the ocean).

    All,

I'm happy to answer questions if you have any but I do not plan to come back to monitor this forum. Also, I tried to be really thorough here and I also posted a link to my photos. I have gotten a lot of emails with questions, and I do not mind helping you out in anyway possible, but please please please read all my the notes on this thread first so I am not answering questions I have already answered here. Also, be sure to browse the links to the beach house and my photos so if it is something you can figure out yourself by just looking at the pictures you can figure it out without waiting for me to get back to you via email.

    Thanks,

    Callie

    Catherine...

Thank you so much for posting your search for the perfect Wedding venue. We are just starting to plan our wedding for October 2014...I was planning to have my wedding in Charleston but just tonight my fiancee came up with another possible scenerio. He suggested that we rent a house for a week and have the wedding there.

It is going to be a small wedding with about 15-20 people. Having just close family and friends there together with us celebrating the entire week is a GREAT IDEA!!!

Thanks so much for posting this thread as it helps so Much....We are from NJ and planning on visiting SC in November of this year (2013) to start our search....

    Hi everyone!

I know this is super late now that is 2016 but this post has been really helpful.

But how you guys do it for parking? we found the perfect house but the owner told us about parking, it only has enough spaces for about 8 cars and we have 40 guest max

should we straight up tell them to take a taxi or carpool?

    thank you!
