Food for bridal/groomsmen for getting ready

Angela, on February 9, 2020 at 11:05 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

Hi everyone,

I need some advice on what to feed the bridal/groomsman while we are getting ready. I know for the groomsmen, it will be easier for them to grab something eat, since they take less time to get ready. But for my bridal party and I, we start getting ready at around 1030am ( 3 BM, 2 moms, 1 SIL, 1 bride) and we need to be ready by 2pm for first look/pictures.

I was thinking of ordering catering from Panera (breakfast sandwiches/coffee/fruit plate/water) for breakfast. Our ceremony will not start until 4pm and cocktail hour is at 5pm, dinner at 6pm. What would be the best way to handle the time between getting ready and ceremony time? Provide lunch? Finger foods to snack on? Snacks with protein? I am worried about messing up our makeup and dressing if we have a legit lunch. I am open to ideas!

I suggest non greasy finger foods. For the ladies maybe a fruit and cheese platter with some croissants and maybe the guys some bagels and cream cheese or a meat and cheese platter with crackers.

My MUA decided to touch up everyone’s lip makeup after everyone had ate and just before we left the hotel suite for the venue. Started getting ready at 8:30am and left for the venue around 1:30pm. Worked well. I was within range of a Panera doing delivery so I put everyone’s order in online (salads and sandwiches) and Panera delivered to the hotel room.

I’d bring a travel toothbrush and some tooth paste since I’m a bit of a perfectionist about my teeth in photos. I had little floss picks in a ‘just in case’ bin I made for the bridal suite with hairspray, spray deodorant, mouthwash, safety pins, etc.

Because they needed SO much less time to get ready, SIL's friends have a tradition of all going out for a big breakfast the morning of the wedding, so they all did that and then got dressed around 11:30. The women did snacks while doing hair and make-up, and then we had lunch at the house around 11 for the women, when the photographer arrived for getting ready photos. We had sliced deli turkey, roast beef, and cheese, rolls, fresh fruit and veggies, and chips. No one ate a lot, but they definitely ate the proteins. We were all at the venue before 1 for first look & wedding party photos, then had light snacks (crackers, bread, cheese, etc.) and beverages in the room we all "hid out in" while the guests were arriving. Again, I don't think people ate a lot, but daughter didn't want anyone to be hungry. Cocktail hour was at 4, and dinner was served about 5:30.

For my best friend’s wedding, we all went to the hair salon and the first people got started and those who had a bit of time went to a local donut shop and picked up some donuts and bagels for everyone. And coffee. It worked well for us because we had some girls just waiting around for their turn and people could snack either before or after getting their hair done. We did makeup last so it gave everyone a chance to graze a bit before the makeup got put on.

It’s been my experience that the bridesmaids/ bride have very little time to eat- nor do they want to. Be sure the bride starts with a good, protein packed breakfast. I have done snack platters (always forcing the bride to eat protein rich finger foods), and then provide a sandwich platter tray.

For the guys who need less time, many of my friends have done a large breakfast first. I always order a sandwich platter (from Jimmy Johns or something similar) for them. I then stock the room with bottles of water, chips, pub mix, etc.
Each getting ready room I make sure to have a spare toothbrush/ paste and gum/mints. I love doing day of coordination for my friends- one key person you should plan for is someone to help with getting folks the food they need the day of- for the two Getting married, it may be all the way that day!

My parents slipped my friend/husband of my MUA some money, and the good man went and got us a pizza.

But we were a) in NYC, b) used to eating odd foods in clothing we can't get dirty (I was not yet dressed, to be fair), and c) a very chill and odd BP.

Read your crowd and pick food that way. (And, yeah, remember a toothbrush, because I didn't and felt silly.)

Our hotel has free breakfast so all of us staying at the hotel will eat there. For lunch, my mom is planning on getting Chick-Fil-A nugget trays or she'll make sandwiches for everyone. She makes really good chicken salad so I'm good with either option!

We did Panera. For breakfast, we had power bars, a giant fruit tray & pastries/bagels/cream cheese. Then coffee & tea & water. We also got boxed lunches, each girl picked their own lunch. The guys all went out to lunch before at a local restaurant.
