Food for Wedding Weekend

Leesha, on January 7, 2015 at 2:21 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 17

Hiya, I understand a lot of you dont like my idea of having my wedding in a remote place with no stores ect. I hope you can please look past that and help give me ideas for meals/snacks. We obviously have some-what of a meal plan ready, i just want to know what you would like to see for these meals if you were going to a weekend wedding. Guests will be more than welcome to bring their own food, but these would be provided for all. We will have about 95 guests.

Snacks/Drinks apon arrival

Rehearsal Dinner

Breakfast/Lunch

Wedding Dinner

Brunch.

I don't know how many people you need to feed but I would look for party dishes/casseroles to make ahead & serve. We used to have a once a week meal & then once a week breakfast where someone at my church cooked & brought in & I found a lot of big sized dishes online to use.

I'm not sure what your plan is, though a wedding weekend sounds really fun. My best advice would to just make sure that there are plenty of snacks and things around. If it is in a remote place and there's no way to get food at random times, that could be bad. My mom is a diabetic and if she goes low, not having food would definitely be a serious problem.

I'm not saying this to freak you out or make you worry, but just make sure people have access to snacks at all times to avoid problems like that.

Arriving: I like water, wine, and decaf coffee/tea. Easy munching, like cereal, toast with peanut butter, and fruit.

Brunch: fixings for omletes (eggs, veggies, cheese, meat). Maybe pancake mix. More toast, fruit, cereal, etc.

Honestly.....as a general, have stuff for sandwiches. Ready to cook lasagnas, pizza, frozen meals. Soups?

Snacks: fruit, veggies, trail mix, crackers, and cookies.

I think your idea is very sweet.....I just think its a giant undertaking. I had 4 at my house, and it was a nightmare because she was vegan (god love her.....but I didn't know what to buy! I made vegan lasagna).

ETA: ahhhhhh, a caterer!!!!!!! Awesome!!!! I would definitely do either grilling (meats and veggies) or pasta and veggie options for dinners!

When you do your invites make sure you have something where someone can write down any dietary restrictions since it will be hard for someone to get an alternative item

Question, have you really not learned from your past posts? They will indeed get heated and you will not get any answers. The only thing I have learned is that you come into these posts with what you are going to do already set

Deleted this comment about food safety concerns because I didn't realize a caterer would be making all of this food.

Actual constructive ideas about what to serve are in my comment below!

Question, why would this post get heated?

A wide variety of snacks and ready cooks meals. Digiorno anyone? Make sure you try and cover everyones dietary restrictions.

Totally sounds awesome to me actually. I love this kinda of event. We did this sorta for our DW. I would encourage you to find out about allergies.

Brunch: Egg bake is easy, maybe a cereal bar, and toast? Juice? or if were talking fancy mimosa bar and bloody mary bar.

Snacks/Drinks upon arrival: Fruit/veggie trays, cheese? Beer or soda

Rehearsal Dinner: Maybe pasta (maybe frozen lasagna or something easy) , salad, garlic bread? Dessert of some type-ice cream that people can scoop themselves or maybe apple crisp? You could also think about a soup bar (different kinds of soups) and grilled cheeses or panaini press sandwiches

Breakfast: same things as brunch.... can you set up some griddles and have people cook their own eggs or pancakes.

Lunch: Sandwiches, soup, grilled chicken salads, pasta salads,

Is this all communal eating or is this bring back to their rooms/tents or whatevers?

There are whole websites out there for recipes to cook for masses and how much food/drink etc per person. Good luck!

I attended a wedding like this a few months ago. Here's what they did:

Arrival: everyone showed up at different times, but there were bowls of trail mix and little candies waiting when we walked in. I think it would be sweet to have water (especially if people have just traveled), maybe coffee/tee? Definitely wine! They also had coolers of beer kind of stashed all around the cabin, which was a fun surprise! Snack foods are always appreciated--chips & dips are easy.

Rehearsal dinner: I really hope you're planning on feeding everyone staying together. They did, and just grilled out. Burgers, hot dogs, chips. I think someone made a huge pasta salad.

Breakfast/lunch: I need to preface the rest of my post by pointing out that their cabin lost all power early Saturday morning due to a huge snow storm. So that sort of put a wrench in a lot of their food plans. But they had a ton of pastries & bagels, eggs & bacon (which people cooked on a grill), fruit, and orange juices. Everyone just kind of cooked what they wanted to eat. I like the suggestion to have stuff for sandwiches, because then everyone can find something they like.

Wedding dinner: they did get this catered, so they had BBQ. If you can make & transport food beforehand, you can freeze things like pulled pork and it'll still be good. Italian is relatively easy to cook for a large group.

They only had about 40 guests, and they still got it catered. 95 people is a lot to cook for. Please make sure you're considering everyone's dietary needs. Do you have a commercial kitchen you can use? I'd be worried about food safety, honestly.

We have booked a caterer, who is willing to travel with his supplies and waiters. He is letting us decide whatever we want for food, and he will cook it. I just wanted ideas on what we/he should make. Is it bad that i want some other opinions on what to have? If you dont have anything to say regarding my question dont comment! Simple as that!

Keep it all simple and filling. fruits and such for snacks, eggs and bread, sandwiches, etc. small, filling, and keeps the costs down. have wine, coffee, maybe some tea and juice available

Now that you mention it is a professional, licensed caterer who will be doing the cooking, then the question is entirely different. I interpreted it as you asking what YOU should make for your 95 guests during your wedding weekend, which made me really nervous about food safety/sanitation and also your own sanity.

As for ideas for what your caterer should make:

I agree grilled food is a great idea either for the night before or lunch the day of. Just make sure you also have tons of fresh ingredients (summer salads, veggies etc.) so that people don't feel like they're just eating salty meat (YUM HOTDOGS) the weekend of a wedding when they are supposed to feel pretty.

Snacks- lots of chips, pretzels, trail mix (be careful to label things with peanuts, in case your guests have allergies). Stay away from things that might melt in the heat, like chocolate.

Breakfast- breakfast sandwiches are always a huge hit, but I would also have pastries/bagels for the non-egg lovers out there as well as some fresh fruit (either a fruit salad or whole fruit) and yogurt for the health conscious.

We got very lucky. FFIL owns a business and always has his staff dinners catered by this wonderful man and his family. They have been catering for FFIL for over 15yrs. He offered to caterer our wedding over Christmas during FFILs Christmas staff dinner, so we took him up on the wonderful offer. He has been great with us so far, and a lot of stress taken off my back.

Thanks for all your opinions !!
