Food for your big day

Laura, on June 19, 2019 at 10:49 AM Posted in Michigan Planning 0 32

Have you decided on where you're getting your food for your big day? catered? bringing your own, bringing in prepared food trays? Venue all inclusive?

Our venue doesn't allow homemade food to be brought in, but we can bring in food from locations. We're going to be going with Chicken Shack. They are really affordable and really delicious! They have party packs you can get that takes care of everything and they deliver too. We are just waiting on a final head count to order. We'll of course have a cake, but I'll be bringing in some fall based Michigan foods like cinnamon doughnuts and apple cider

What are you doing?

Your wedding sounds delicious, sign me up for donuts!

My venue had their own caterer (technically the caterer had their own venue actually, lol) but I did bring in a snow cone truck, as well as pies and donuts instead of having a wedding cake.

    Sounds yummy!

We are having our wedding catered by the caterer the church offers. We are having a brunch wedding so our menu has two different egg dishes, german pancakes, fruit skewers, bacon, a fruit and yogurt parfait bar, 5 different muffin flavors (blueberry, banana chocolate chip, butter rum, lemon, and raspberry white chocolate) and of course individual cheesecakes! I am so stinking excited about our menu. We will also have coffee, mimosas, and of course water.

Our venue will only allow us to choose from their preferred caterers, a whole five to choose from. We are going with a comfort food type local restaurant. An assortment of sliders, salads, bites etc. We will be bringing in our own desserts. Donut towers and a s'mores bar which they are allowing.

I would have liked to have had an in house caterer, but since it's a community center they don't. It would have been fun to get to pick from different foods to have

That sounds awesome! I do plan to bring in some desserts for a dessert table other than the doughnuts.

It was a last minute decision for us to do it but we are going to DIY it. We got terra cotta pots that the sternos fit in perfectly, painted them in our main wedding color (rose gold) and bought little trays from Dollar Tree to hold the chocolate, graham crackers and marshmallows. Leftover Dollar Tree vases from another wedding project to hold the bamboo skewer sticks that we got for $1 for like 100 of them at Walmart. Here is our dessert table setup mock up to give you an idea.

(The pots weren't painted yet and please excuse the wrinkly plastic table cloth. This is just to show how we want everything set up lol)

I love that! I'm still working out in my head how I want it to look. My nephew will be setting up for me, so he and I will be starting to figure all that out pretty quick here

Oh yeah. I knew the day of, my head would be all over the place. We are doing all of our own setup and are only able to get our venue at 11 am and the ceremony starts at 2 pm so making everything as simple as possible was key. My DOC is a family friend who is amazing but I also don't want her feeling like she is running around like a headless chicken. Each table will have a photo of how we want it to look so along with her and the other setup crew. it will hopefully go quick and easy.

    *Fingers crossed*

I relate to that! We have the venue from 2 until midnight. We scheduled the wedding for 4 so that there is plenty of time for set up for the tables and the DJ. We have it stopping at 11 pm because we area not only responsible for set up but clean up as well, including putting all the tables and chairs away and taking out all of the trash. I'm hoping to find something to help some so my FH and I aren't doing that in our gown and tux lol I've already told my nephew i'll get the centerpieces as put together as possible and i'll make sure he has pictures of how to arrange them.

What about Captain Jay's? Way cheaper than chicken shake and out of sight! I have to text my venue and see if I can bring that in now. LOL

Same here. Thankfully I have a huge family and everyone is insisting on helping but letting go of the control after all this planning is tough! What will be, will be lol

My FH can't stand their food. I'd never heard of it so I just asked him since he's a fried chicken nut. He is Chicken shack man LOL I don't mind it, I love their potatoes. Plus they deliver from the one in Riverview so I don't have to worry about that

Our venue is doing ours, and we're bringing in the cake. We got SUPER lucky and the venue has no issue with us bringing in a cake that my (extremely experienced) mom will make. She and I have honestly always assumed that she and I would be in charge of the cake, so it was really nice to find a place that was cool with it..... especially since we have about a trillion allergens that need to be avoided.

    YUM!!

During cocktail hour we are able to bring our own food so we are going to make some meat, cheese & veggie trays.

My venue required a full service caterer for dinner. I found one that had some really affordable options thankfully!

We are going to be having parmesan crusted chicken, baked ziti, green beans, smashed yukon gold potatoes and salad.

As for dessert...I live in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area so a huge cookie selection was a must so family and friends are making lots of cookies. and my FSIL will be making our wedding cake and cupcakes for the guests.
