Food tasting - did you tip??

Jillian, on January 13, 2015 at 8:43 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6

FH and I had our food and cake tasting this past weekend (at same venue). We sat down and they gave us each a complimentary drink. The tasting was included in our venue price. The food/cake was brought out by the two banquet managers, not a waitress. At the end we were going to live a tip on the table, however the women came back to us and suggested we go back to the office and go over details. She waited for us to get our coats and follow her to the office. It was a little weird since she was standing there to leave something on the table. We went over all our details, to avoid driving back in march for the meeting they require. It then didn't seem appropriate at the end when we left the office to give her something.

So, in this case, did you/would you have tipped? I was thinking of sending a thank you with a gift card or should I wait until our wedding where we will give a handwritten note with something in it?? Not sure if it will be the same people helping on our wedding day.

I did not do a food tasting, because I am familiar with the catering company that I am using and what their food tastes like. I did however do a cake tasting, and no, I did not tip for that and she offered us coffee and milk!

I did tip at my food tasting, but would not have tipped at yours. My food tasting had the food served by the woman who would be our day-of wedding butler, so there was a service element there. If the food had been served by the venue or event manager, I wouldn't have tipped. I did not tip at my cake tasting.

I didn't know either!! We were sitting there and it was a table in their restaurant part and it made me think of tipping. I googled it quick and some forums came up on different websites where people said they sent a thank you card after the fact, etc. I think I'm going to just not worry about this one and see how things go moving on. They have been great so far! Our rehearsal and dinner is at our venue as well, so I think once we see how that goes (and the event manager who will be there with us will be with us for the wedding), so depending how the rehearsal goes then we can do thank yous at the end of the night.

Which I guess leads me to a second question...For those of you that had everything at one venue and they have event mangers, but someone or two will really be working with you the day/night of your wedding, but work for the venue, not someone you brought in, would you tip/give them some type of gift with a thank you?? On top of the cost of everything they have the 18% gratuity already added in, but I think that is for the wait staff/etc, not necessarily them??
