Food tasting Prior to wedding?

I reached out to our venue today and asked if we could do a food tasting? Their response was not until next year…Has anyone else tasted the food at your venue?

We actually went to the restaurant we’re having our wedding in and ordered a couple of the dishes we are having. It was a good way to test! Thank goodness it was good! (I know what I’m having if I get to eat that day...)

I have not had a tasting yet. My venue said the same thing. My wedding is in May, so they said we could schedule our tasting starting at the beginning of the year.

Our venue has a required caterer, so we had to hire the venue first, then we did our tasting back in February for our November wedding. If your venue doesn't have a required caterer, I would probably try to do tastings prior to hiring someone. For us, we were not concerned because the caterer that our venue uses is the same caterer that did my cousin's wedding, so we had already had their food before. If there is no way to do a tasting prior to signing, I would ask if they could put you in touch with any previous clients as a reference (preferably a reference for a wedding).

We're getting married next September as well and our venue has in house catering (they actually have a restaurant on site as well) so I have the list of menu options, I have to come up with a tentative menu and then we do a tasting with those menu options I selected sometime early next year. Then if I need to tweak anything I have time and they'll allow us to come in and taste anything we switched. So we haven't done a formal tasting yet. I haven't even started planning the menu yet.

I did go there for dinner more than once though and everything food and drink wise was amazing.
