Food!

Abi, on January 28, 2020 at 3:35 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 18

Hey ladies! So, my Dad is quite the classic Dad, minus the New balance tennis shoes! Lol. Anyways, he has a hotdog cart ( Like the ones in new York), cotton candy machine, and popcorn machine. I am getting married 10/10/2020 and my wedding will be outside in North Texas. I hate to have the ability to have those at my disposal for free and not incorporate them in the wedding. Would it be tacky to do hotdogs for dinner, with sides? Or would it better to use those as a midnight snack type thing? Any cute ideas are welcome! Thanks Smiley smile

As long as you are having a backyard style wedding, not at all. That actually sounds like a lot of fun. I would just make sure to have lots of toppings and probably different types of hot dogs/sausages. If you are having a more formal wedding then I would maybe have that in addition to or as a late night snack option. You could have a popcorn station with different seasonings as well.

I agree with this! If you're having a very casual wedding, this would be a great dinner idea. Otherwise, it would be a nice late night snack option for a more formal wedding Smiley smile

I prefer this as an idea for a midnight snack— sounds super fun.
I don’t love it in its own for a dinner though, as hot dogs feel more snack-y to me— even with sides, I’d need a couple to feel full, and they’re a bit of a polarizing food— not everyone is into them, so you’d want to provide another entree option, and once you do that the novelty of the cart can fade into the background. So I like it as it’s own thing later on— People who like hot dogs and aren’t afraid of a little mess can enjoy them, and people that don’t can still appreciate the novelty’

I could definately incorporate them as late night snacks or as guests leave as a sober up before you go idea! I was thinking of doing a coffe and juice food truck outside our venue and guest leave to stop and get something for the ride home so it would work just like that

Our midnight snack was mini hot dogs, so I love that idea Smiley smile I think it's fine for dinner if it's a super casual wedding. I guess one of my concerns is your dad having to run the cart and serve people rather than take the wedding in as a guest.

My wedding is a casual backyard bbq and we're doing hotdogs and pulled pork, etc. So I'm biased and think hot dogs are fine for a wedding. It could be a cute little carnival theme!

But if the wedding is more formal, I agree with others that maybe you stick all those machines off to the side to use later. I'm even thinking that if anything, the cotton candy and popcorn machines could be used to make "to go favors"! How cute would it be to have cotton candy with a little note that says, "All spun out for love" or something like that. OMG I'm coming up with tons of ideas over here and now I wish I had a cotton candy or popcorn machine at my disposal! Smiley heart

I agree with everyone that it would depend on what style you are going for! But reading the hotdogs, popcorn, and cotton candy made me think of pics like these below! If you want a more fun/non traditional reception I think it looks like fun and nobody would really think twice about the hotdogs since it goes with the theme. It seems trendy for people to use food trucks so why not incorporate what your dad is offering!

I think this is a very cute idea! If this is the style you’re going for, I say go with hotdogs for dinner, popcorn and cotton candy machine for snack.
