My fiance and I made sure our wedding did not fall on a game day weekend solely because of the horrific amount of football traffic our guests would have to suffer through.

What kinds of decisions have you had to make because of the football season? Would you miss a wedding for it? Would you put up TVs so your guests could watch the game?

My boss was telling me of a wedding where there was a two hour gap between the reception and ceremony. Turns out the bride wasn't taking pictures, but went home to watch the game!

Neither FH nor I care about sports at all. I like to watch the Olympics when they come around, but that's about it. I think skipping a wedding for a sports event, unless you are actually on the team or something, is absolutely ridiculous. If someone skipped my wedding to watch a football game (or since it's a spring wedding, a baseball game), I probably wouldn't be friends with them anymore. And season tickets aren't an excuse. With enough notice you can easily sell your tickets. My dad has season tickets for the Blues and he does this occasionally.

People are on their phones 24/7 now-a-days...what's the difference? As soon as I logged into facebook a day or so after my wedding I saw a ton of people had posted pictures from it DURING my wedding. I didn't notice anyone on their phone at the time...

I always make sure to avoid major holidays - people go out of town, potentially higher prices on flowers (really more for Mothers Day and Valentines Day), etc. Also wanted to avoid fall because of our birthdays.

I didn't consider football season. If my guest wanted to come, they could miss the game. I even booked the wedding on the first day of duck hunting season (not purposely). My husband forgave me and went hunting the following weekend.

Exactly what Ren said. If someone declined my invite and I found out somehow that they went to a football game that day...........Mmmmm. What's worth more to you......supporting me on my big day or going to a football game?

I always wanted a fall wedding...unfortunately FH and I, our friends, and our families are big into football, not to mention FH and his buddies, including almost all the groomsmen, are in fantasy leagues. So we made sure our date didn't coincide with anything major. My mom is hosting a gift opening for the following day, but the Packers play at noon so she is making a TV will be on somewhere!!

Not going to lie, if I had tickets to an awesome football game (as in my team verses a big rival) and your wedding is on that day, unless you're a really close friend I'd be skipping your wedding.

I deliberately did not schedule my wedding during the fall because I love watching football too much. I wouldn't want to give up watching a game because of my own wedding. I don't know what I would do if I was invited to someones wedding on a gameday. It would depend on my relationship with that person and how big a game it was. Most people around here won't schedule a wedding on gameday.

This is basically my life. Except I HAD to have an October wedding. I mean it wasn't life or death, but it was what I had my heart set on. Soooo, it's on a Friday and Cocky will be there. The next day is an away game, but a home game for my Clemson folks. And the following weekend when we are still on our honeymoon is a BYE weekend.

    OP - Sleazy Easley?!

Oh, and I have missed a cupcake game for a close friend. But I wouldn't miss an SEC home game or Carolina-Clemson game for probably anyone.

Neither FH nor I are big into football, but we checked to make sure our wedding wouldn't coincide with Penn State or Bucknell games because of the traffic and hotel problems. We're just far enough from Pittsburgh that Steelers games don't affect our traffic much.

Sorry. If you find it more important to watch a game than to go to a friend's wedding, you're doing them a favor by not going.

I understand not scheduling weddings when there are traffic/hotel issues; there is a giant multi-day horse even near me that makes getting anywhere impossible for days, but for a game on tv? Maybe you should re think the guest list and only include people who think you're more important than the NFL.

Think as you wish. None of my friends would have their wedding on a game day, though, to start with because we all love football. Two of my best friends got married during football season, they did not plan it during a game day. If you're not a sports fan, you really don't understand and can't really judge.

Oh, for the record, I wouldn't skip a wedding to watch a game. Only if I had tickets. Sometimes teams don't play very often and those are the games I would want to go to.

Would I skip a wedding for it? Probably not. Would I be on my phone checking the score every minute after the ceremony? Definitely. FH and I are die hard fans of our college team. Most of our friends are hugely into football (and other sports) as well. We would have scheduled around it if we had wanted a fall wedding. When I was MOH in May, it was the spring game. The bride was so annoyed because they changed the date on her and she would have to miss it for the first time since she was born. The venue was nice enough to stream it while we got ready.

Well, FH and I are both huge football fans, but he loves college more, which is primarily Saturdays and I love NFL more, which is primarily Sundays. He proposed November of 2013 and we didn't want to try and have the wedding before August 2014 to avoid football season, so we pushed it back to anytime after February 2015 to avoid this season.

Landed in May because of the weather in Seattle but we did push the wedding back by quite a few months for football.

ETA: Saw the posts about missing a game for football. I totally would if it was a big game and/or it wasn't a close friend or family. If it was a close friend/family, then I would go but constantly check my phone. I have zero shame about it, our friends and family would do the same thing.

Funny but true story. I was due with my son on Feb 28th. I joked that I would probably deliver him on SuperBowl Sunday (HUGE NFL fan). I was admitted to the hospital with preclampsia on Feb 1st. The SuperBowl was Feb 3rd. My BP was all over the place it was 210/110 when I was admitted. They monitored my BP every 15 minutes and I was only allowed two guests at a time with no lights in the room and the TV volume couldn't go above 3 or my BP went UP. I told the nurses that if my BP went up some that I was only watching the game that it wasn't a big deal. They did warn me though that if it went up too much that they would remove my TV from my hospital room.

Um, I skipped my second cousin's wedding to go to a football game. It was my senior year at Notre Dame and I would have had to travel for the wedding, so I just stayed at school. Sorry if that makes me an awful person. I would not miss a friend's wedding just to watch a game on TV--in fact in a few weeks I won't be able to watch a pretty big game because I'll be at a friend's wedding.

I would have LOVED a fall wedding. But between me & my friends with Notre Dame, FH and his whole family with Nebraska, and then my family is all in Michigan (mostly Michigan fans, some Michigan State), there was no way. I did briefly consider having a sports bar-like set up and just renting massive projectors and playing all the games during the reception. My mom quickly made me realize how crazy that idea was.
