My fiance and I made sure our wedding did not fall on a game day weekend solely because of the horrific amount of football traffic our guests would have to suffer through.

What kinds of decisions have you had to make because of the football season? Would you miss a wedding for it? Would you put up TVs so your guests could watch the game?

My boss was telling me of a wedding where there was a two hour gap between the reception and ceremony. Turns out the bride wasn't taking pictures, but went home to watch the game!

We didn't plan around Football because FH already has a ridiculous job schedule so finding time for our wedding was hard enough. However, we have a Hawks game the Sunday after our wedding at 10AM so we are considering inviting family and some friends over to watch the game with us and to enjoy brunch together! Smiley smile

It's really ironic that you all put in so much time, money and emotion into planning the perfect wedding and guests have so little regard for that.

Another vote for small, intimate guest lists.

No one cares as much about your wedding as you do.

It did not cross my mind to consider football season or any other sport. Neither FH not myself care at all about sports. Luckily, we ended up picking a Friday so if there are any diehard fans on my guest list, it won't matter.

I would NEVER have chosen a fall wedding because FH and I are HUGE college football fanatics. We wake up at 8am on Saturdays to watch Game Day and we stay up until the wee hours of the morning to watch Big 12 Live and the other wrap up shows. Plus, I'm a teacher and we'd like to be able to take a vacation every year for our anniversary..so a summer wedding was the one for us!

..FH's sister is getting married November 15th. A day before my birthday and the same day as a HUGE home football game.

@Angie I have thought of "THAT" to the point where I don't actually care. No one ever notices anyone on their phones at weddings. I have picked up my phone to take pictures at weddings so I wouldn't even think anything of it. So what "this" bride would think is As long as you showed up and are having a good time at my wedding, I don't care what you do!! (even if you did check your phone for an update on the game) and no I wouldn't be offended!

Not only did I not take football into consideration, most cell phones don't get reception at our home and the wireless is password protected. So, we're having an unplugged wedding whether we wanted to or not. And I am tempted to disconnect the main cable so no one sneaks into the house to watch tv. Call me Scrooge, but I don't want football interfering with my days and the other non-FB fans' enjoyment.

Now that I think about it, Snarky is right. People are on their phones almost 24/7. When I go to visit someone I am NEVER on my phone, I don't even answer my phone! I think it is VERY rude! However, with that said, I go to visit family and friends, they are ALWAYS on their damn cell phones! Except for my mom and her bf. I'm sure they think it is RUDE also! Whenever I go to dinner I turn my ringer off BEFORE I even walk into a restaurant! Then again, even recently, my friends and fw was on the phone the entire time! I even got my phone out of my pocket and laid it on the table and said "I feel left out, here we go"! Needless to say they didn't get the hint! Hell, I was at dinner in a restaurant with fw's parents once and my fmil was on the phone while she was eating! Talking with her mouth full on the phone in a restaurant! I was beyond humiliated!

    Edited for grammatical errors.

Then they shouldn't accept the invitation.

I think it's just very obvious that non-sports lovers will never understand or relate to sports lovers on this point. And that's fine.

Personally, we would never miss a Steelers (me)/ Pats (FH) / USC game for our wedding, besides the fact that in our family it would inevitably turn into another fantasy draft party. No thanks.

That being said, I wanted a spring wedding anyway, but that left us with having to find a date that didn't conflict with March Madness, The Masters, or the Draft, which was tough!

Funny that not an hour after commenting on this post I found out that the reason one of my husband's cousins wasn't there was because her son had a football game. He is 8.

I am worried about the score checking with the phone. Ugh ...FH and his family are huge into it and u picked a day that their team is playing. I banned him from his phone but agreed to his brothers MIL/ babysitter checking the score for them

I had tickets to an amazing football game (my team vs. a major rival) and your wedding is on that day, so unless you're a really good friend, I'd be missing your wedding.

The thought never occurred to me. I have no idea if anyone we’re inviting is a sports fan - no one talks about it. Maybe it just never comes up.

If someone is super into sports and they prefer the game to my wedding I won’t be insulted. I know for sure FH wouldn’t even know a game was going on so he’ll show up.

My aunt didn’t come to my wedding because her son had a football game. On a Friday. I’m still upset about it and always will be.
