For early 2021 brides, did anyone just decide to search for a new venue, instead of postpone?

RaylaSan, on October 22, 2020 at 7:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

Just want to know if anyone else did that, because that's what my fiancee and I are planning in doing, since our original venue were really wishy washy on their new guidelines. Basically giving us the option to either wait it out, postpone, or cancel.

We were lucky enough to have run into a new venue that was very lax with their guidelines, and assured us that they were taking several COVID precautions, such as having hand sanitizing stations in every corner and at each table, masks that will be handed out to every guests, even providing gloves.

So we made the tough decision of getting our refund with our original venue, and go with the new venue instead.

My heart hurts, but I just don't want to postpone.

What was wishy washy about the first venue? Them giving you guys those options seems fair and more generous then what some other venues allow.

Hopefully Covid will get much better or at least be a little more under control. I understand not wanting to postpone, especially since I'm sure you're looking forward to your big day.
Our big wedding is scheduled for March 2021 & our venue has been very sympathetic and generous.

I did. In fact I changed cities altogether. My fiancé and I are older (early 40s) and this is the first time both of us will be married, and we didn’t want to postpone. We originally planned a 250 person destination wedding in New Orleans — the city where we met and got engaged. But when COVID hit and inside gatherings were limited to 25 people, we scrapped that plan and planned a 15-person Plan B minimony in Destin, Florida (still a destination but closer to home) on our original date in January 2021. I was bummed at first, but it has truly been a blessing in disguise.

Don't get me wrong, I think what they're doing is very generous, and I appreciate them so much for being so understanding throughout the whole thing. I say it's wishy washy because of how many times they keep on giving me different guidelines, literally one day they're like, "You can do this" the next day is, "Nevermind, you can't do that". What I mean is, they don't have a precise plan of action, and that's what I find exhausting. I understand that it's hard to tell because of COVID, but when they're changing their rules and guidelines, every other day, left and right it was exhausting. It got to the point where literally Day 1, they were like, "Oh we're only gonna allow 50 guests with no reception" and the next day they messaged me they were like, "Okay, we're now allowing up to 100 guests with very strict food and beverage guidelines", and then the next day, they make changes again.

As of right now, everything seems fine with our venue. No crazy guidelines so we're just going to push forward and whatever happens, happens. I'm glad you were able to find a new venue and work everything out. Definitely doesn't seem like an easy thing to do considering covid. Big feat for sure. Congrats and I hope all continues to move peacefully and stress free.

We live in the Bay Area (CA) and each of the 9 counties have been opening up at different rates and levels. In April, my daughter's original date, and venue, in June was postponed to August (2020) but by June, original venue still had no opening plans in sight (a public historical venue). So, we found a private venue in the next county over that could accommodate 85 people and still follow Covid regulations. My daughter refused to postpone a 3rd time especially since there are no guarantees anything will be better next year. It was a lovely day and the venue ended up being even more ideal than the original.

    Heya!
Our date is scheduled is for March. My fiancé and I decided to push back our wedding as planned now to around September. On our original day, we’re going to elope with immediate family at an Airbnb

Oh okay I get it. My venue keeps changing but I expect that because my state and actually every other state keeps changing as well. Depending on the number of cases, hospitalizations etc no one knows what will happen so I don't expect them tell me what will happen.

It's hard for anyone to tell really. Especially so far out. My venue coordinator and I agreed that we will revisit in December/January and figure out if things are better or worse and go from there for our March wedding.

We considered doing this based on what the regulations were in the city where we're getting married. Thankfully we got favorable news and don't have to do that.

Our date is April 10 and we are planning on going forward with it - thankfully the venue has a lot of outdoor space and our reception room can fit up to 300 people, so plenty of space to spread out, if needed. They've been hosting weddings (they're located in NJ, which has been pretty strict with Covid guidelines) so that gives me reassurance for April!
