For those marrying firefighters...

mandi, on July 15, 2009 at 10:57 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

Just wondering if you guys are doing anything special to incorporate firefighting in your wedding. My fiance isn't really expecting anything (except maybe some pics with the trucks) and I'm thinking maybe I'll have a fire charm on my garter.

Love to hear your ideas!

Oh that sounds like a great idea... where do you get the charms from? Have you thought about a grooms cake w/ a firetruck? or were you thinking more along the lines of something traditional like how military people incorporate things into the wedding?

I know this is kinda random.. but what about doing a boudoir photo with some firefighting gear. Just a thought and it could be his special gift Smiley smile

    Maybe a cute cake topper.

I like the idea of putting a charm on your Garter.

I'm not marrying a firefighter, but my fiance is working on becoming a police officer. I have a police officer garter, and I think we'll be walking into "Bad boys" or "Mrs. Officer"

I posted this on another tread about a fire theme...

I love incorporating this into your theme (I'm a firefighter too)!

How about having a firetrucks as transportation from the ceremony to reception? You could have the DJ play emergency tones or sirens as you enter the reception, there are also several songs with a fire theme that you could use. You could have the wedding party or better yet members of the fire department create an arch/tunnel with pike poles (your FH should know what they are) for you to walk under as you exit the ceremony or enter the reception. Decorate your sign in table with his helmet and other fire related items. Have some fun photos of the two of you on the firetrucks and display them in nice frames. Cookies shaped like firetrucks, dalmatians or hydrants would also be good. Google "A Fireman's Prayer", print in on nice paper and display it in a frame.

I could go on for days!

    Lol, love all the ideas!

tom'sluv08: I've found a few sites with caketoppers (google occupation cake topper), but they're not really what I had in mind. Charm can apparently be found at a craft store. And I do have a cake on my profile that is sooo adorable, but our cake is going to be a gift, so I'll need to talk to some people and see what we can do.

Stepahny: I have thought of that... just haven't found the guts for it yet, nor have I been able to think of anyone I would be comfortable with as a photographer... We'll see, maybe I'll get over it Smiley smile

    wowjunkie: sounds great!

Celebrations: haha, love the enthusiasm and the ideas.

Thanks guys! (And keep it coming)

Below is a poem that was given to my friend Eileen Regan, by one of her Valentines Day couples.

    "A Fire Wife's Prayer"

    Heavenly Father,

I'm asking you to send your angels today

    To protect my firefighter husband

    in a very special way

I ask you to guide his thoughts and actions

and keep him free from fear

To bring him home safely again

to those who hold him precious and dear

    Please show me the way

to let him know I'm proud to be his wife

I thank you Lord for giving me this man

with whom I share my life

To keep those you love safe from harm

is a goal that you share

I pray that as he follows in your ways

you hold him in your care

    Oh Lord, we thank you

for the union of hearts of our dear"

This wedding took place at the Empire State Building in NYC.

I went to a wedding last year at which the groom was a firefighter. Rather than everyone clinking their glasses to get the couple to kiss, they had the DJ make an announcement before dinner changing the rules a bit. He told all of the guests that if they want the bride and groom to kiss, they have to grab the mic and sing a song with the word "hot" or "fire" in it! It was a lot of fun, and cute to watch what people came up with.

My FH is a firefighter and I haven't come up with much myself. Our engagement pictures were taken with firetrucks (which I loved!) but I feel like it wasn't enough. So We're having a 3-tier wedding cake with a firetruck cake really close, the "ladder" (which will probably be made out of pretzels) will extend to the top of the cake where our cake topper of a fireman and nurse will be. Smiley smile

I love that ashlib! The cake sounds great! We did engagement pics with the trucks to, but I agree it doesn't feel like enough.

Some of the guys at my FH fire dept have mentioned putting the turnout gear jackets on the back of our seats with Mr & Mrs on the back of the coats where their names would typically be. As for the garters, i have found really cute FF garters just google them. I am also trying to find miniature plastic fire hats to put candy in for our favors.

We are eloping with a couple of friends. Etsy is amazing. We got our firefighter theme cake topper there. Also a pocket square with fire trucks and a tie with helmets. I couldn’t decide what I wanted to do for flowers. I think I’ve decided on white roses with a red ribbon. Also, and this is pretty personal, but they have super cute panties for your wedding night. Etsy for the win. Just search “firefighter wedding”. Good luck in your search!

I know this thread is super old, but maybe:
    -wear red/orange/gold (fire colors!)
-bride entrance to "this girl is on fire"-reception entrance to "fireball"-sparkler exit (if permitted and feasible to do safely)
