For those of you doing the unity sand, this could help! Possibly even for you mommies out there!

Like many of us brides on here, I am doing A TON of DIY things. A bride on here introduced me to stumbleupon.com a month or so ago. While on stumble upon, I came across this project which is really meant for smaller kids, but I thought his could work for the sand for your unity sand part of your ceremony. Its so simple to do, and the best part is you could get the perfect color you want instead of searching and searching for it online or in store! Also this could be a fun project to do with your kids for you mommies out there!

I like, unfortunately my issues aren't so much with the sand it's with getting the right container for the sand. I really want this, but I don't want to spend what it's going to cost and I don't know how to etch glass.

I could have you confused with someone else, but isn't your theme rustic?

I'm glad you love stumbling Smiley smile We bought our container at hobby lobby. It is a wide vase with the initial "R" in the middle. I got the containers to poor our sand in with at the dollar tree (I think they are meant for single roses). The selection at hobby lobby was too small.

Glenn, I think etching is actually fairly easy. You make a stencil and then apply a paste-like substance to the glass using the stencil. The etching substance eats away at the part of the glass and voila, etched glass. I just broke down and bought the darn thing from Etsy though. It should be arriving anyday now...

    Here's a kit on amazon http://www.amazon.com/Armour-Deluxe-Glass-Etching-Kit/dp/B001AQPMCO

Me? No, I don't have a theme in the first place. I will be having a formal, traditional wedding.

Thanks Justine, I'll check to see if I can find something at Michaels this weekend that would do that rather than pay $19 to Amazon, since Michaels always has coupons/sales. Ultimately, I'd love to be able to say I did it myself, but if it's going to get close to the cost of the one on Etsy I might as well just buy the one on Etsy!

I searched for cheaper options and couldnt find any myself.. but did find a DIY site for a photo sand frame but we would prefer a glass shadow box with it etched in like the expensive etsy one
