So due to many financial and personal reasons (too many to list actually) FH and I are planning on getting married this week at the courthouse. So sudden! Yes we are still having our Disney World wedding, yes I am still wearing a huge ballgown, and out of respect for FSIL whose wedding is in June we are not telling people until after her wedding. So I have a few questions for those who have done/ are doing this. So my questions are this 1.) How long does it take? 2.) If you need a witness do you bring someone with you, or is it just like a random worker of that day, can you bring a witness? 3.) What do I wear, I was thinking like a special occasion dress, but on t.v. you always see like jeans and a tee-shirt. And my last question is did you do something afterwards? Yes this is just the "legal" part, but it is still the day I marry the love of my life and would like to do something special afterwards.(nothing big, but I need some suggestions) Thanks Ladies and Gents!

We are eloping, we've told my mom and his aunt & uncle. We are not lying to anyone, either. I fully asked most of my family if we eloped would they still come to a family ceremony/celebration next year (which gives our families time to save money to travel across country) and all of my family is fine with it. My mom and FH's uncle are actually the ones who suggested we elope and then have a celebration next year. Which we concluded was a great idea, due to financial issues and family issues (we have several members of our families making big moves across country and wouldn't have the money to come to a wedding this year). So I am thinking of my family.

I agree with everything Shamika said.

Also, be open and honest with your guests. Don't hide/lie and say your vow renewal is your "real" wedding.

Ahhhh! Thank you so much, Abby! Smiley heart3
This answered so many of my questions. We are eloping this october and then getting "engaged" at disney and then planning our actual wedding for the same date in 2019.
I had so many questions about the courthouse wedding process. Thank you!

My fiance's cousin was on active duty got married and did a beautiful ceremony 4 years on. He called his mom after he and his wife got married in secret. I'd suggest doing the same call both of your folks explain I'm sure they'll understand.
