For those stressed about the weather...

Private User, on April 7, 2015 at 9:39 AM Posted in Planning 0 22

Now that I'm only 10 days out, I've been stalking weather forecasts like crazy. The forecast has gone from hot and sunny, to mild and sunny, to mild and rain just over the last couple of the days. I did a little Googling to help ease my mind, and I came upon this article about how horribly inaccurate forecasts (especially long range) are:

http://www.josh-rosenberg.com/2013/06/accuweather-long-range-forecast-accuracy/

I thought it might be helpful to other brides in the same situation! I know the solution to stop stressing is to ignore the weather altogether, but I can't help it Smiley smile

Oh my gosh, I am in the boat! We are having a S Florida wedding with a rehearsal dinner on the beach, a welcome party at the hotel on the intercoastal, and an outdoor ceremony. And the weather predictions are all over the place. Grrrrrr!

I checked the Farmers Almanac and it says they may be a hurricane second week in August....yeah WTF! I hope this isn't accurate Lol I'll be really upset!

The weather is the one wildcard factor over which you have NO control. As long as you've got a plan B, there should be no need to stress about it. I would have loved to have an outdoor wedding; but since we're getting married in Scotland, I played it safe and went with an indoor ceremony. If the weather is nice, we'll do photos outside - if the weather doesn't cooperate, we'll don our wellies and STILL take some photos outside. Just don't stress, be flexible and remember that the day is all about the fact that you're marrying your love - rain, schmain...enjoy the day!

@Amy, so true! Luckily I have a back-up plan for the ceremony, but I have no idea where we'll do pictures if it's gross outside. The inside of the golf club isn't anything special :-\

I checked 3 websites today and all agree that it will be a beautiful, no higher than 82 degree day for the wedding. Yet.. this is Florida, so you know that could change tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed. I hope it's a nice day on Tuesday also for my FH bachelor fishing trip... right now it looks like a 80% chance of showers.

Good luck to all of you!! I'm this Saturday and we've gone from 80% chance of rain, to 20% to 60% now down to 10%. It keeps getting better the closer we get though, so I'm hoping we're in good shape now!!

Our ceremony is outside in the middle of September in northern Michigan. It could be ridiculously hot, raining, extremely cold or even snowing. We have an indoor option and will decide the day before. Sorry it's so stressful for you.

@Lauren, I hear you. Does your photographer have a portable backdrop that could be used?

Don't stress yourself out about things you can't control. Seriously. Wedding planning and family issues aren't stressful enough? LOL.

Let it go. The weather you get is the weather you get. That's all.

You have no control; don't waste your energy on this one. Make a decision a few hours ahead if the weather is iffy (you do NOT want to spend your wedding day looking at Doppler) and go with it.

@lauren I'm in the same boat!!! The ceremony and reception will be fine because they are inside, but my pictures!!!! I really want gorgeous pictures and I have no idea what I'll do if the weather does cooperate!

This is EXACTLY why I couldn't do any wedding activity outdoors. I live in Portland, Oregon and it rains here A LOT in September so I had to choose an indoor ceremony and reception. I hope all you ladies have mild and good weather though!!! Don't stress about it, just make sure you are prepared.

Good to know - nothing will be outside for ours except pictures (hopefully) so it's really not a huge issue for me, but obviously I would still like nice weather. I started tracking the long range forecast the other day. It started 69 and sunny and is now says 70 and cloudy/rain but for 3-4 days on either side of the wedding it shows sunny, so I'm still optimistic. And I know it's not very accurate even 10 days out, so I'm not putting a lot of stock in it but more just curious to watch how it changes as it gets closer.

I've been checking that too! It's changed every time I look at it. I have a plan B but the outside area is so beautiful I really hope we will get married outside. Butttt if not, I'm not getting upset and I'm sure it'll make for some awesome pictures Smiley winking

I know it's totally not something anyone can control but I definitely was watching multiple sites the two weeks leading up to the wedding.

We had a back up plan but thankfully, our weather was perfect that weekend for everything we planned - not too hot nor too cold.

@Amy That's a good thought, I'm not sure but I'll check it out!

I hear what everyone's saying about letting it go since I can't control it.. trust me, I'm working on it! Haha

Eeeeeppppp, do they do weather forecasts a year out? This is probably my biggest worry. We'll have to have everything inside and the ceremony will be in the same room as the reception and everybody will be seated at their reception seats for the ceremony too. I just think it will be a long night if people are sitting the whole time in the same seat. Really hoping for good weather!!

Personally, I think rainy weddings make for awesome pictures and a good story. I say just go with it and wear some waterproof mascara if it rains!
