Forgot to wrap the cake - is it ruined?

MaroneyintheMaking, on February 11, 2018 at 9:25 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 17
Sooooo, after the wedding I simply placed the top tier of our wedding cake into the freezer in a cardboard cake box. Didn’t wrap it or anything, didn’t know I was supposed to. Is it worth even keeping? Is it ruined?

Ooooof. I would definitely wrap it now if you’re going to keep it. Possibly the inside isn’t ruined? Maybe your bakeshop can recreate you a little one for your anniversary next year. Smiley smile

I would keep it like that for a yr. Eat it now or try to save it with plastic wrap.

Our bakery recommended eating after a month (they will remake our top tier on our anniversary). MIL just sent DH home with a few slices that she had in the freezer. We tried thawing....it was horrible.

I wrapped my cake really well and it was awful a year later. I would thaw and eat it now.

I have always heard it is going to be gross no matter how well you store it.

This is one of the many traditions H and I decided to skip altogether......

I'm a baker and cringe at people keeping their cake for a year. Frozen or not it isn't good. Pay the money to have it made for you again on your anniversary if it's that important to You! And eat the cake in the box before it gets too freezer burnt. Otherwise the frosting will do a weird separation thing and then drench your cake. If its fondant you're safe because no one eats the fondant anyways

Bakery told us most people don't save the top tier for the whole year. I don't think I will be saving it do to the fact of hearing it taste awful being I'm the freezer for a year. I would eat it now just but one on your 1st year.

We thawed ours out after 6 months--we had made a ceremonial cut but hadn't taken out a slice or anything. my mom wrapped it up pretty securely and it was totally delicious after 6 months! i am the wrong person to ask if yours is worth saving now, because i am of the Any Cake Is Good Cake mindset, haha, but i bet it would be ok if you wrap it up well now (or just thaw and enjoy now!).
