Formal wedding -plastic barware?

We're having a very formal, elegant wedding. Is it tacky to use plastic cups and such JUST for the bar?

What a thing to complain about! Maybe its a location thing, but Most Elegant Formal parties will have glassware on the table, like she is planning on doing, but clear plastic cups for cocktails and the dance floor...

These are very elegant high society parties for rich socialites and they have plastic cups in their hands. Don't sweat it...

Lindsey - what's your deal? OP asked for opinions and we provided it. Just because you provide a couple pictures of 'rich people' doesn't make our position any less valid. You expressed your opinion, we expressed ours. Let. It. Go.

No one here is complaining Lindsey. It's called giving opinions, which the OP ASKED for. I have never been to a formal wedding with plastic cups - cocktail hour or otherwise. Not everyone has the same opinion as you - deal with it.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be rude, I was just giving her examples of formal parties that had plastic cups and no one complained... Just giving my opinion as well and backing it up, I have many more than just a couple photos. I thought it might make the OP feel more comfortable seeing it...

I just think a lot of people that read the OP are thinking "Formal? Plastic? Those two don't go together..." And when you think of it that way or point it out... maybe... but in practice it really isn't out of place at all and it happens all the time. I was only trying to illustrate that point. I am sorry if I offended you! It was not my intention!

If you want a "very formal, elegant wedding" you should rent glassware. If they only have plastic in the bar area and glass elsewhere (ie wine glasses on the tables) then I'm assuming they wouldn't have a problem with that. It's also a fairly inexpensive way to set the tone for the rest of your wedding (assuming this is just for the cocktail hour?)

If you can bring in your own stuff, I'd get some wine glasses from IKEA or dollar tree. I've used them for lots of things and they look nice. Plastic stuff tend to break or fall, and that's no fun for anybody. I poured a glass of juice for someone recently in a dollar tree wine glass and they said they though it was from our 'good stuff'
