OK>>i am on a tight budget and didn't have this included..so was looking for a low cost option.. WELL>>Home depot has the unfinished wood letters. I'm doing M I will buy black paint and purchase sharpie markers. here is the link if anyone needs a low cost alternative to the wooden letter idea Smiley smile Anyone know which paint is best to use and if these markers will write without smudging and smearing on the wood?

I don't know what you want the letters for or how big, but Michaels carries wooden letters as well.

Thank you! I'm thinking 20-30" tall and thick enough to stand on a shelf at home .. thicik enough to sign the sides, the back etc. This would be for guests to sign instead of a "guest book" and then we would display it in our home.. looking for a letter M (my future last name initial)

Hmm, I think the larger ones at Michaels are only about 12". I took these pics a while ago, so I don't really remember.

I had the same idea. I found some wooden customized initals on Ebay. They come in different sizes. I am thinking about the 2feet tall initials to hang on our wall as a focal point. I think it cost $60 for a huge one with 3 initals (monogram)

I like the thicker ones i think.. then i wouldn't have to get a real tall and flat letter.

    maybe 18-20" tall and 1 1/2 - 2" thick?

Could you laminate 2-3 M letters together to get the thickness you want?

Whenever I tell an elderly man that I'm going to be officiating a wedding that weekend, he says, "Be sure to take your Gorilla glue and stick them together forever!"

I've never used Gorilla glue for ANYTHING, but maybe other brides can tell you if that would work (or maybe something better).

Those of you who have had your wedding. How did this work? Would you recommend sharpies or another kind of paint pen? Should we first paint the letter in a flat paint and then spray it with a clear coat after to make sure the signatures don't fade?
