Are you referring to free samples like color swatches for dresses? Or actual items for your wedding like décor? Color swatches for dresses are pretty inexpensive (like $2) on Azazie and David's Bridal's website and places like Home Depot have paint color swatches at no cost if you want to see how colors look together. As far as décor goes, I'm not sure you will find free samples, you may be able to find someone getting rid of things on those buy nothing groups on Facebook. Or check second hand stores or Offer-Up for good deals on items that you may be able to use. Typically, you aren't going to find 'free' stuff for your wedding, it is a cost you will have to absorb. If you can't afford it then elope or have a small wedding you can afford.

Sometimes, you can find things like free cake samples and such at bridal shows! Also, some vendors offer giveaways at bridal shows, so you could enter for the chance to win free prizes (honeymoon, dress, etc). The odds aren't very likely, so I wouldn't rely on winning (though it doesn't hurt to enter!). Otherwise, as mentioned above, some places like Azazie offer very cheap dress swatches so you can find the right color and material for dresses, and definitely check out Facebook wedding groups for people selling new/gently used decor at a discount.

Such as what types of things?

You can cake samples and other giveaways at local wedding expos.

Hardware stores and Walmart carry paint chips you can use for color swatches when meeting with vendors and putting your vision together.

Not free but very inexpensive..you can get fabric swatches for dresses from Cocomelody/Azazie.

GoogleSheets has a wedding planning packet that you can access from and device and share with others. You can pront them out into a DIY 3 ring binder that has your paint chips, dress swatches, contracts, brochures, for when you meet with your vendors.

Minted does free samples of their invitations/save the dates but only one is customized for you. The rest are to help in your selection.

It depends on what you are looking for. As others have mentioned, most invitation companies will send you free samples and bridesmaid dress companies will send you free color swatches. If you are looking for things like free cake tastings, flowers, etc., attend a wedding expo. Vendors hand out all sorts of freebies there.
