Freight Train tracks along outdoor ceremony area

Jables, on February 7, 2018 at 12:47 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 10
We are planning a ceremony and reception at the samesies venue with a 20-30 min ceremony in the courtyard of the area. Freight train tracks run along the back of the building and I'm concerned there isn't a way to time the ceremony to make sure there isn't too much noise if a train rolls by. Has anyone else dealt with a similar situation? If so, did it matter?

I otherwise think it would be cool for pictures and all but worry about the ceremony itself.

Have you tried to find train schedules, so you can plan the ceremony in between trains? They are often available to the public.

How long does the noise last? A minute or two, or super long? I'd ask the venue if there are scheduled times that the train goes through.

Talk to the venue and ask what they have done inbthe past. They might have a general idea of the schedule for when the trains have been passing by there. Then you can try to schedule the ceremony for a quiet time. They probably wont be abke to guarantee the timing though. The other option would be to move the ceremony inside or to a different location.

A friend of mine got married on a rooftop overlooking a waterway. Gorgeous venue, but the bridge went up for a boat to pass under right as they were saying their vows. This is not a timed thing that they could have planned. It's more-so whenever boats need to pass under. The bridge dings and it causes a lot of traffic backup for about 10-15 minutes. However, it made for cool pictures having the bridge up while they kissed and now it's a funny story. Guests laughed it off.

A train is a little different depending how close it is or how loud it gets. As a guest I'd be a little bothered to be sitting near a loud and rumbling train.

If the train goes by quickly, I wouldn't worry about it. If it does happen during the ceremony, I am sure your officiant could turn it into a funny moment by saying something like "the single train has left the station" or some other train pun. People love a light hearted moment!

Definitely talk to your venue about it. I'm sure they've dealt with it before. I like the pun idea in the PP. If the trains last 10 minutes then you'll have to figure something else out, but I'm sure as a wedding venue that's probably not the case.

Thank you all so much!! This was my first post and it was so great to get so much feed back already!

ill talk with the venue for sure. Freight train schedules are tough to find publically but maybe one day I can sit in the parking lot and assess how loud it really gets too! And like FutureMrsKC and Heather said... worst case could be cool pics and funny story!

I went to college right next to train tracks for freight trains. During graduation, they would just pause for a minute or two to let the trains pass and then continue with the ceremony. I would imagine it would be similar for you. I would also second a PP's recommendation to look at the train schedule and try to schedule your ceremony accordingly.

My cousin got married under the Brooklyn Bridge. It was gorgeous! But every 90 seconds the train went by and I missed the entire ceremony. It was a Shane because the bits I could here were lovely. We’re still talking about the train.

There is a venue near my house like this. I had my baby shower there and didn't hear much of anything inside. But i did not consider a wedding there for that reason at all. Do you know how frequent the train runs? Anything running every 15 mins or every 30 will interfere you can't plan it too much. Maybe you can view their schedule but if they are behind schedule or ahead of schedule you cannot determine.
