Friday or Sunday for labor day weekend wedding?

Julie, on May 7, 2014 at 9:56 AM Posted in Planning 0 14

We are planning on getting married labor day weekend of 2015, we have started telling people that it will be that Friday but now I am second guessing if I should have it on Sunday. The benefit of a Sunday is that no one will have to leave work early/take time off of work Friday, but the benefit of Friday is we will have the entire weekend to celebrate afterward and if anyone have annual labor day plans they can still attend them. Sunday is a cost savings for the Venue, but I don’t know if it will offer any other vendor savings.

What are your thoughts should I do Friday or Sunday? Is it too late since I’ve already told people it is on Friday? Has anyone had any issues with attendance for a Friday wedding?

I'd prefer a Sunday over a Friday for the reasons you mentioned.

I vote Sunday too - because most will have off on Monday to relax and won't need to take the time off work.

Can I ask why you've have totally overblown the Saturday. I'm getting married labour day weekend this year. If you think it's over costs being greater on that day, I assure you, the costs were not greater for us on that day. Shop around.

I've been to weddings on Friday, everybody that was invited came if they had enough time in advance to plan for the day. If people the people you care about most have to work that day, then move your ceremony into the early evening so that everyone can attend and perhaps you can mix things up and have something happening earlier in the afternoon as a couple with the rest of your group. I know he'll see you ahead of time that way, but you'll get to spend some quality time with your guests beforehand and enjoy the day.

Sunday is also a great day. If you are religious, you better check that you are able to get married on that day if it's in a church. Sometimes this is saved for regular masses and is not permitted. Whatever day you choose, choose it for yourselves. The guests that you invite, if they're important enough to you, will come no matter what day you choose. It's your day, choose it for you.

We went to a labor day weekend (Sunday) wedding this past summer. It was great for the bride, I think she saved a lot of money. No one seemed to mind that it was a Sunday night reception because most people have off Monday. A girlfriend of mine is a Pharmacist and I'm a nurse and we had to be up bright and early to be at work on Labor Day. So, while it probably wouldn't be a huge deal since you're so far out, don't assume everyone will be able to party all night long!!

Just my 2 cents Smiley smile

I vote Sunday also, because I would I have to take a day off work if it was on Friday. It's definitely not too late to change it.

Sunday is easier for most people as they already have off. It's also nice because most of your guests will have off Labor Day Monday.

Sunday, because it is generally HORRIBLE to travel on Labor Day Friday - traffic can be insane.

Thanks Future Mrs. Elliott I had set up the account before I started really planning. I think it should be updated now.
