Friends Flowers - What to Charge

SnappyLove2015, on January 2, 2014 at 2:37 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 13

A Co-workers FDIL asked if I would do her Bouquets and boutonnieres for her wedding in February. I have done several bouquets and such in the past for a few family members but never charged them to do them other than cost of materials. What is a fair percentage or cost to charge for me doing the work. Bridal Bouquet, 4 maids, 17 boutonnieres (yes 17!) and 4 wrist corsages. The flowers are Carnations, Hydrangeas and baby's breathe.

How much will the materials cost you? I would say at least 3 times that. Your time is also worth money.

I would look at the cost of material and obviously charge that and then look at the length of time it will take you to do this. Then figure out how much your time is worth for example if u need to take a day off work maybe charge her your daily wage etc.. Obviously keep it reasonable and based on going rates it your area

Real flowers will probably take more prep time than silks, so that could make a difference in what you charge.

The materials/flowers will total only $200. However there is 1 bridal, 4 maids, 17 boutonnieres and 4 corsages. Not sure how long it will take...i imagine no less than 4-5 hours. I might have a friend helping but not guaranteed. Is $350 a reasonable amount. The bride never told me a budget she is trying to stay within but she did know the cost of the flowers.

I'd go 400 honestly. If she balks at it, she can certainly see if there will be anything lower... But don't undervalue your time...

I would be ecstatic if someone would do all that for me for $350, so, I think that sounds good.

ETA: I also think that's pretty low and you could definitely charge more.

Did she get quotes from florists for all that work? I still think $350 is low, I imagine all this would take you quite a bit of time.

She only got quotes on the flowers themselves not the labor. I have checked around town at florist cost and i'm charging about 1/2 what they would. Thanks everyone! I will go in at $400 and see how it goes!

Basically I would say that you should charge between $500 and $600 dollars for all of that! Take materials times three is a good rule of thumb to make sure you cover youself and do not undervalue yourself.

If florists are charging about $800 for what you're doing, I think $500 is reasonable and still saves her money. If it takes you 20 hours to put all this together for her, you'll only be paying yourself $10/hr -- I think that's low, considering that is time you could be working on your own wedding, on things around your house, etc.

I would ask for a few quotes for the same order from some florists , and maybe go by charging 100/hr and go from there , maybe you'll feel better after getting some figures?

no matter what you charge, your price will be a bargain compared to a floral shop im sure because as soon as you put wedding in front of anything the price goes up significantly . Im sure you have your own things to do and this takes time don't sell yourself short
