Friends vs Family Invite Numbers

Haley, on June 19, 2019 at 8:33 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

How many friends are you inviting?

Our total guest count right now is 115. ABOUT 25 of those are friends, including the 10 in our wedding party. Adding their +1, it's about 35 friends.

Everyone else is our family and olderish (aka not our age, we will be 27 & 28).

I'm hoping 35ish friends will be enough for dancing and having a great time. My plan was to keep the wedding smallish and only invite people we regularly see and hang out with.

What do you guys think? Were you surprised by how much fun older people had? Do you think 35ish friends is enough to feel like a party? Did you have a small wedding and it was awesome and didn't matter? I just really want to have the best day ever and I don't want to regret not inviting people who could've made it more fun.

Will I even be worried about this on the day of? (Probably not but planning stress is REAL)

Our reception will be in a tent at a winery in Oct on a Saturday.

I think 35 friends is more than enough. A lot of my older relatives are more fun than my friends anyway, but I guess that really depends on your circle.

In my mind 115 people just seems like SO MANY people (which I know it isn't really) and I imagine like 3 people swaying on the dance floor while everyone else yawns or stares at the few people dancing. But I think it's really more me being crazy and thinking of the worst case scenario than anything.

Unless you’re having a dry wedding I assure you that won’t happen

So we had a small wedding of about 55 people and about half of them were over 65 but we had a blast. We had a good mix of younger and older people and the older people danced and had a great time too. Just try to relax and got with it and have fun.

35 is enough for a good dance party. When my dance floor opened all the older folks left. So it was just younger folks and I wanna say there were around 40 left of my friends

I know everyone in my family are pretty big party-ers, even the "oler-ish" ones. Not in a party all the time way, but more if there is a party to be had it's guaranteed that they make it a blast. Our invite list is 200, split about 50/50 between friends and family. I definitely wouldn't count any group out of the party, but it's also kind of a know-your-crowd thing too.
