Overrated. I'm just going to have wine, some lemonade, infused water and potentially beer. Liquor is not necessary for my wedding.

    Overrated.
I've never been to a wedding with an open bar. It's not the norm where I'm from.
I didn't realise how many people were against it until I came on here lol

I completely agree! Guests are there to support you not to be showered by you. Guests should not be insulted by a cash bar, they can stick to the free drinks if they dont want to buy anything.

Overrated. Not everyone can afford an open bar and many are unwilling to start a life together deep in debt. My wedding will be brunch so I don’t have to worry about alcohol that much. Mimosas would be enough. I’m not a drinker so I really don’t go to weddings for alcohol. I go to weddings to show support for the couple.

    Underrated.

If I invite people over to dinner at my house, I don't ask them to bring their own drinks.

People are flying in from all over, are pitching in to help create an amazing day. Then in addition, they are giving us gifts for (forgive the over simplification) declaring our love for one another... then buying them a few drinks to say thank you for the support is not too much to ask

The only additional thing that one may want to look into is figuring out transportation for guests at an open bar event. Maybe a shuttle to/from the hotels? Maybe set up an event with Lift or Uber depending upon their availability.

Overrated. The only alchohol at my wedding will be the champagne toast.

Both sides have a few alcoholics in it. So, we decided that we would take the alcohol that my MIL offered and avoid things like vodka (my step mom is a nasty drunk and she will only drink vodka). So, we are limiting drinks and we did offer to let people bring alcohol if they wanted, but that was at their own will. I don’t want my step mom ruining my day like she has a habit of doing with me in particular.

Underrated. My husband jokingly pointed out the cash bar at a few weddings we attended together, so we just had to go for the full open bar for ours. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Overrated. Wedding is mostly family and they know how to have a good time without over-drinking.

Overrated! No one should be getting obnoxiously drunk at your wedding. It detracts from what the day is all about when you have sloppy drunks all over the place and then have to pay a $5k+ tab for the alcohol afterwards.

Overrated. It can be very expensive! We bought a small keg and did a signature drink. We even had some of the signature drink left over. Lol

Underrated. I think it's cheesy to have your guests pay for drinks at your wedding especially when they already have to pay for plane tickets and hotel stays.
