Fun Bridesmaid activities

SoontobeMrs., on April 4, 2017 at 8:34 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 56

What type of fun activities are you all planning with your bridesmaids? Besides the bachelorette/showers people will throw for you all.

JUST TO BE CLEAR- I'm not referring to asking them to throw parties for me or to treat me like a princess. Simple activities that you'll do together the night before or the day of your wedding. Lol

Getting married, having a wedding. I'm not planning anything for my bridesmaids. IF they want to plan you a bachelorette or shower, they can but there's no expectation that they will. You cannot plan these parties, it's crass and gift grabby.

I plan on just continuing to relate to my friends as friends, not as participants in my wedding. They are only my bridesmaids on that one day...before and after, they are simply my nearest and dearest.

Same as @StPaulGal. I will continue to do the same fun things I already do with them (when I ask them to be my bridesmaids). We will probably get our hair/makeup done together that morning. My two friends have not met my FSIL so maybe I'll have them over for dinner or something after I've asked them.

@jessieJV I'm not planning on pressuring anyone to throw any parties for me. I'm just excited that they want to do girly things with me such as shopping for my veil, their dresses, mani pedi, etc. I don't need parties to have fun. I never grew up with sisters so for me any type of girl fun goes lol

    I didn't.

I mean, I guess the night before. I paid for a hotel suite and we ate and stayed up and talked. But I have no clue what other "fun" things I could've done specifically because they were my bridesmaids. I was a bride, not a cruise director.

Oh are you supposed to treat your BMs differently now? Do you have to wear pants when you get together? I misunderstood. Naw, my girls and I hang out like we normally do, in pyjamas and with booze.

@T-Rex other "fun" things for me include going shopping for their dresses and them offering to do pizza and wine night to assemble or brainstorm on decoration ideas. I'm not gonna be directing much.

Why would they want to do that? Have they actually expressed an interest in doing any of those "girly" things? I'd rather be subjected to someone prying my fingernails off while singing the theme song to "Paw Patrol" than do any of those things, but to each their own.

We turned our dress shopping day into a dinner/drinks outing. We all did dinner the night before my shower as well . I will also reserve a "private party" at a local nail salon the day before the wedding for family and my bridal party.

Yes because brainstorming and assembling things for someone else's wedding is so much "fun"...

I plan on taking my bridesmaids to a nice brunch the weekend before the wedding if they're available.

@JessieJV Exactly, to each their own. Thanks for your input. I'd like to hear from the ladies who actually enjoy doing girly things. If that's not you, I totally get you.

@Alexandra L. That's a nice idea. Especially if there's mimosas involved. Just saying Smiley smile

@K.M. Actually I've had 2 of them suggest doing that. They're super creative and crafty. And I happen to love drinking wine and spending time with them so I'm in!

My sister and my BFF are such radically different people that I can't picture them spending a lot of time in each other's company. Honestly, my little sister's life is so busy that I'm just super grateful she can squeeze me in for one day. Smiley laugh If I can get her for a few extra hours, I'll try to get a pedicure with my sister a day or two beforehand.

Hey OP, welcome to the internet where there are people of not the same interests as you. Hopefully ALL your BMs are in the same "girly" camp as you, otherwise you are going to have some Surly Sues pooping on your pink parade.

ETA: plan your own wedding, and do your own DIYs. No one in your wedding party wants to be a glitter covered bitch.

@JessieJV thank you so much for your feedback! I'm glad to be in this forum where I can see other people's interests. At this point I'm not really interested in people who HATE doing "girly" stuff. But again, thanks for providing your feedback.

@JessieJV And another thing...I'm not sure what kind of girly things you had in mind but none of my ideas for my wedding or my time spent with BMs include glitter. Lol to each their own.

It stinks that I came on this post in hopes of getting some good ideas but instead see rude comments! Ugh. That's the hard part about WW. Either way, I too have been wondering what I want to do with my best friends (also bridal party) night before the wedding. Whether it be to treat them to a dinner, watch movies, do a spa day, something. Hopefully some of those ideas help you and hopefully you get some constructive feedback because I'll be checking in for some ideas too.

The forums are a bit too sensitive about BPs. There are lots of posts about people demanding things from their wedding party or having unusual commitment expectations. However, I don't think this is one of those posts.

And even on that note, I don't understand why doing things with your bridesmaids (such as planning and DIYs) is such a problem. As long as it isn't expected or demanded. These are supposed to be your closest friends. I've been a bridesmaid 3 times and I've been excited about doing these things with my bride friends, because... THEY'RE MY FRIENDS! It just comes with the friendship.

    Something we've done:

my fiancé and I hosted dinner for the wedding party soon after having asked everyone. Most of our bridesmaids/groomsmen know each other and are either dating or married, so we through it would be a good opportunity for the one bridesmaid and two groomsmen (and their significant others) who didn't know the others, to meet. Everyone was just invited as if it had been a regular dinner party.

We are going bridesmaid dress shopping in April and I'll be hosting lunch for any of the ladies that can make it.
